The incident was first reported to ER24 Potchefstroom at 13:44 on April 13.
Responders from Mooirivier Beskerming's First Response team were also dispatched to the scene. Due to the challenging terrain at the location, emergency services decided to deploy a Rocket HEMS medical helicopter for aerial reconnaissance.
Following the initial survey, a second Rocket HEMS helicopter was called to perform a precise static line rescue. The patient was subsequently transported to a hospital in Alberton for further medical care. By 18:33, the individual was safely en route to the hospital.
This complex rescue operation involved multiple agencies, showcasing a high level of coordination and professionalism. ER24 Potchefstroom provided crucial on-scene medical stabilisation, while Rocket HEMS facilitated both the aerial survey and the rescue extraction.
Support from local organizations was vital. Mooirivier Beskerming, alongside CPI control rooms, played a key role in communication management. AfriForum Potchefstroom contributed with drone technology that aided in the operation's logistics.
The Northwest University's Faculty of Health Science Emergency Vehicle provided essential ground support. Additionally, SARZA and the Mountain Club of South Africa's Mountain Rescue team were instrumental in ground retrieval efforts and navigation support, utilizing advanced satellite imaging to guide the operation.
