“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day-in and day-out” - Robert Collier
Never has a quote held such weight and meaning for a community.
According to Rehab Helper’s website, “It is important for society to recognise the serious nature of drug abuse and addiction in South Africa and take action to address this problem. By working together, communities, government, and organisations can help to reduce the negative effects of drug abuse and addiction and improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities across the country.”
And that is exactly what Glenville Fransman, Public Representative Councillor at JB Marks Local Municipality, alongside other representatives of the YADSA organisation and community members did on Saturday, the 9th of December 2023.

Taking to the streets
Under the gentle embrace of a sunlit sky, a peaceful march unfolded, weaving through city streets like a river of unity and purpose. The rhythmic cadence of footsteps harmonised with the collective heartbeat of a diverse gathering, each individual contributing to the symphony of voices advocating for change. Banners and posters fluttered in the breeze, carrying messages of hope and justice, as participants, driven by a shared vision, moved forward with dignity and determination.
The atmosphere resonated with tranquility and solidarity, as the march became a living tapestry of diverse backgrounds converging for a common cause. Amidst the peaceful sea of faces, there was a profound sense that this march is not merely a procession but a celebration of the power of peaceful assembly to amplify the call for a better, more harmonious community.

Fighting for more than a cause
Youth Against Drugs and Substance Abuse (YADSA), a recently established organisation, took to the streets of Promosa with a mission to raise awareness among young people and the community about the perils of drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, crime, and gender-based violence. Functioning as both a support group for youth and community members struggling with substance addiction and an educational platform infused with spiritual teachings, YADSA emphasises the importance of a divine connection in combating these issues.
The march commenced at the intersection of Bloemetjie and Allen Hendricks, proceeding towards the Promosa Community Hall, where an official program unfolded. The event featured insightful presentations and information from diverse organisations, including the South African Police, North West University, SANParks, Ikageng Crisis Center, as well as contributions from local leaders, pastors, and social workers.

This organisation and its campaign hopes to combat the many issues that our community struggles with.
