A Humble Beginning
Born in the small town of Kroonstad, Zelda Mans embarked on a journey that would take her from the heart of the Free State to the coastal views of Hartenbos. In 2019 after getting married ,she moved from Hartenbos to the Kalahari.
Starting her professional career in education, Zelda's path took an artistic turn, leading her into the realms of writing and literature. She is still teaching as well as freelancing for a Afrikaans news platform.

After studying education in Potchefstroom and a brief stint in Cradock, she obtained her Honors in Afrikaans literature at Fort Hare at the end of 2020 .And at the end of 2022 she got her Master's Degree in Creative Writing from the University of the Free State.
A Late Bloomer in Reading Finds Her Voice
Zelda, who once shied away from reading, has now emerged as a celebrated author with two acclaimed novels under her belt. Her literary journey began with an unexpected turn during her university years, leading her to discover the therapeutic power of storytelling.
This newfound passion resulted in her debut novel, Sy hart se lens, a tribute to her grandmother Lucy, published by LAPA Publishers, followed by Waar die krieke sing, published by Malherbe Publishers. Through her writing, Zelda explores themes of emotional healing and personal experience, offering a unique and authentic voice to the Afrikaans literary scene.
The Inspiration Behind the Novels
Contrary to creating fictional worlds, Zelda insists on drawing from her own life experiences, believing in the authenticity and emotional depth they bring to her stories.
Her debut was inspired by a personal tragedy, while her second book delves into her own experiences once more. Her upcoming novel, is eagerly anticipated, promising to share the profound encounters and reflections following a car accident that happened in 2018.
Beyond the Classroom: A Life Enriched with Art and Music
Despite the demands of her teaching career, Zelda finds solace and joy in her artistic endeavors. Returning to painting and embracing music lessons, she continues to expand her creative horizons.
Teaching has not only been a source of fulfillment but also a poignant reminder of the realities faced by many children, driving home the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment beyond the traditional role of an educator.
