If you’ve ever stared longingly at a beautifully stencilled pot plant holder and thought, “I could totally do that,” well, now’s your chance to prove it. Build It Potchefstroom is bringing a splash of creativity to the DIY crowd with their upcoming Tjhoko Paint Workshop, and it's shaping up to be a proper hands-on jol.
When and Where?
Mark your calendars for 26 April 2025, because from 08:30 to 13:30, the folks at Build It (yes, that place you go for nails but end up buying a braai grid too) will be rolling out the paintbrushes at their store on 46 Wolmarans Street, Potchefstroom.
What’s the Deal?
Hosted by none other than Francois Brits, this workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to dip their toes (hopefully not literally) into the world of decorative painting.
You’ll be learning three main techniques:
Decoupage – It’s not a French dessert, it’s that cool thing where you glue paper onto stuff and make it look fancy.
Raised Stencil – For when you want your wall art to have a bit of a 3D ego.
Regular Stencil – Classic, reliable, and no one has to pretend they know what a palette knife is.
What’s the Damage?
The workshop will cost you R550 per person, which includes the guidance of an expert, hands-on experience, and probably a healthy dose of accidental paint on your clothes. Worth it.
Want In?
To book your spot or ask that one question that’s been bugging you (“Can I bring my own apron?”), give Emmerentia a shout on 083 566 7697. She’s also your go-to if you just want to confirm the venue or chat about your stencil fears.
No need to be a professional artist or a DIY die-hard. If you've got a free Saturday morning and R550 burning a hole in your pocket, this could be the perfect way to unleash your inner creative. Just maybe don’t wear your Sunday best.
