The Promosa Minister’s Fraternal, in partnership with the Freedom Recovery Centre and YADSA (Youth Against Drugs and Substance Abuse), will be hosting a Drug Awareness Outreach from 25 to 27 October 2024. With an approach that’s all about meeting people where they are, this campaign promises to bring the community together in the fight against addiction.
Weekend Program Breakdown
Friday: Schools and Youth Gathering
The weekend kicks off on Friday morning with visits to Promosa High School and two primary schools. Stakeholders aim to raise awareness among learners, emphasising prevention and support.
Later that evening, the focus shifts to the Promosa Community Hall with a youth gathering. The night will include prayer, guidance, and useful information to help empower young people to make better decisions. It’s not just about talking; it’s about building connections.
Saturday: Hitting the Streets and Hotspots
Saturday sees the campaign moving into the streets, focusing on community hotspots, including areas where those struggling with addiction tend to gather. The idea? Be there, listen, and offer help where it’s needed the most. The organisers want to bring hope to people directly, showing them that support is available without judgment.
Sunday: A Combined Service for Hope
The weekend wraps up on Sunday with a combined service, gathering the whole community along with churches in Promosa. This service is about collective prayer and support, with a focus on families who are battling the effects of addiction. Parents are encouraged to attend, especially those who have children struggling with substance abuse.
The organisers hope the event will inspire those affected by addiction to take steps toward recovery, and they are committed to helping families find real solutions, including access to rehabilitation where needed.
Building for the Future
A key goal of the campaign is to establish a Drug Centre within Promosa. This would eliminate the financial burden of sending people to rehab facilities in other provinces and provide ongoing support right at home.
The initiative is still looking for sponsorships and donations, especially to assist addicts willing to seek rehabilitation. Those interested in contributing can get in touch with the organisers for more information.
