South Africa’s well-travelled reggae outfit, Tidal Waves, will be pulling in at 37 Loop Street this Saturday for a one-night-only gig. The gig kicks off at 18:00 and costs R80, which, in this economy, is pretty much a steal.
Not Just Another Jam Session
After more than a decade on the road and five albums to their name, Tidal Waves aren’t just showing up for the jol — they’re bringing serious musical chops. Known as one of SA’s hardest-working reggae bands, these oke’s often clock over 100 shows a year. That’s not a typo. One hundred.
Their sound? A proudly South African mix of reggae with hints of blues, rock, and mbaqanga thrown in for good measure. They sing in English, Afrikaans, Setswana and Tshivhenda, so everyone’s covered, more or less.
A Bit of a Throwback
Tidal Waves’ back catalogue includes:
Hard Work (1999)
Harmonijah (2002)
Muzik an da Method (2005)
Afrika (2007)
So yes, they've been at it for a while, and yes, they still bring the vibe.
