Skills & Knowledge Required
Industry-specific accounting standards (IFRS 6 for exploration, ASC 932 for extractive industries).
Strong cost accounting expertise for tracking mining and manufacturing processes.
ERP systems proficiency (SAP, Oracle, or mining-specific platforms).
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (SEC, NI 43-101 for reserves reporting).
Analytical and communication skills to advise management and stakeholders.
Duties Include:
Core Duties Financial Management: Oversee funds for exploration, extraction, processing, and shipment; ensure proper allocation of resources.
Cost Accounting: Track unit costs per tonne of ore processed or product manufactured; calculate cash costs, all-in sustaining costs (AISC), and total production costs.
Financial Reporting & Compliance: Prepare financial statements under mining-specific standards (e.g., IFRS 6, ASC 932); manage depletion, depreciation, and amortization; report reserves and resources per regulatory requirements.
Inventory & Asset Management: Monitor raw materials, finished goods, and heavy equipment; allocate joint costs between multiple products (e.g., copper-gold operations).
Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop budgets for mining projects and manufacturing operations; forecast revenues and expenses to support long-term planning.
Audit & Internal Controls: Support audits, verify accuracy of records, and ensure compliance with corporate governance and industry regulations.
Risk & Compliance Oversight: Ensure adherence to environmental, safety, and financial regulations; mitigate risks tied to volatile commodity prices and operational hazards.
Strategic Advisory: Provide insights to management on cost efficiency, investment opportunities, and operational improvements.
