REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent qualification.
Relevant safety qualification such as SAMTRAC, COMSOC 1 & 2, NADSAM or a recognized Occupational Health and Safety qualification.
Risk Assessment, Incident Investigation and Legal Liability training will be advantageous.
Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and underground mining safety requirements
Minimum 3 Years' experience
Valid medical fitness certificate for underground mining work

Duties Include:
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the Safety Officer (Mining) is to promote and maintain a safe underground mining working environment by monitoring legal and company safety compliance, conducting inspections and risk assessments, investigating incidents, and advising employees and supervisors on best safety practices.
GENERAL DUTIES:
Conduct regular underground workplace safety inspections and report non-compliance, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
Facilitate and participate in risk assessments, planned task observations and safety audits.
Monitor compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, site standards, procedures and legal appointments.
Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses, compile reports and recommend corrective actions.
Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks and safety awareness sessions for employees and contractors.
Verify that employees use correct PPE, follow safe work procedures and maintain good housekeeping standards.
Assist supervisors with hazard identification, emergency preparedness and implementation of safety controls.
