Duties Include:
Key Responsibilities:
Underground Operations Management • Manage the Underground Operations Unit teams, systems and processes. • Keep up to date with latest Mining systems, processes and best practices and make suitable recommendations. • Analyse, interpret Mining data and reports, and take corrective actions as required. • Provide effective problem-solving support to the Mining teams • Chair the daily Mining meeting. • Ensure that all necessary Mining resources (personnel, equipment and materials) are available as required. • Manage the Shaft schedule. • Manage and assess Mining related risks and incorporate mitigating controls.
Underground Operations Projects • Identify Underground Operations improvement opportunities • Implement Underground Operations improvement projects and initiatives • Supervise project teams of Underground Operations projects to deliver project objectives • Contribute to the management of project risk within own field of expertise • Develop simple schedules to facilitate effective project execution • Monitor, evaluate and communicate simple project schedules. • Support the project environment and activities to deliver project objectives. • Identify, suggest and implement corrective actions to improve quality of project work. • Plan, organise and facilitate project meetings and workshops. • Conduct project documentation management to support project processes. • Provide procurement administration support to a project. • Provide assistance in implementing and assuring project work meets quality requirements.
Development • Construction: Design underground layouts. • Tramming: Plan Tramming activities and targets. Reporting • Report Mining production information.
Corporate Governance & Organisational Ethics • Ensure adherence with corporate governance and ethics guidelines and compliance with legal requirements • Comply with professional codes of conduct and to legal requirements in business.
Stakeholder Relations • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally. • Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders. • Sourcing, contracting and negotiating with service providers. • Liaising with the necessary entities on any environmental management related requirements and alignment where applicable. • Collaborating with external service providers regarding the design and implementation of tools to enhance processes.
Financial Management • Managing the finances of the Division to achieve Organisational objectives. Working Cost Budgets: • Setting and approving budgeting parameters for the Division in line with business requirements and financial objectives. • Approving operational expenditure. • Formulating monthly and annual budgets. Capital Budgets: • Prepare and present business cases for Capital approval • Cost Capital Expenditure and process Application for Financial Expenditure (AFE) • Manage and report on Capital budgets and expenditure. Cost Savings: • Leading and driving cost saving and cash conservation initiatives. • Remaining competitive on the global cost curve for surface operations.

SHE Compliance • Maintain and comply with SHE standards within the work environment. • Participate in risk assessments and investigate and take appropriate action as per identified risks. • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures. SHE Management: • Instil a culture of SHE leadership within the department. • Participate in regional/local bodies and decision-making forums in the process developing a business relevant external environment, that will result in the longer-term sustainability of the Division. Quality Management System (QMS): • Approve department’s documents. • Comply with requirements of the Quality Management System. Focus on safe production & operational excellence • Focus on safety and health as well as operational excellence • Improve our position on global industry cost curve People Management Recruitment: • Design the specific Operations’ discipline structure to support the achievement of the organisational mandate. • Review and approve labour plans around operational targets. Performance Management: • Provide leadership and inspire team members towards high performance. • Manage performance and development of reporting staff. • Set the specific Operations’ discipline performance targets and criteria that align with organisational goals for the team. Employee Relations: • Drive the Organisational Culture and Climate within the Business Unit to ensure achievement of organisational objectives and employee safety. Training and Development: • Drive a culture of Learning and Continuous Improvement within the specific Operation to ensure achievement of organisational objectives and safety. • Mentor individuals to enhance the individual`s knowledge, skills, values and attitude. • Create opportunities for development through participation and involvement in new business or technology enhancement projects for team members. • Provide coaching to team members on an ongoing basis. Transformation & Sustainability: • Drive a culture of Transformation within the specific Operation to ensure organisational sustainability.
