4th Annual Waste Fashion Show 2025: Sustainability Meets Style

The Small Five Environmental and Tourism Organisation hosted its 4th Annual Waste Fashion Show at Sarafina Hall, marking another milestone in the movement to combine creativity with sustainability. The event served as a powerful reminder that fashion can be both beautiful and environmentally responsible, showcasing innovative designs made entirely from recycled materials.

The 2025 edition of the show celebrated the theme of environmental awareness through artistic expression, with participants from various schools and communities presenting their unique creations. The event highlighted how eco-conscious practices can merge with style to inspire change and raise awareness about waste reduction.
Esteemed Judges
The judging panel featured distinguished professionals who brought a wealth of expertise and passion to the event:
Vincent Engelbrecht, a respected public servant and community leader with over a decade of experience in governance and socio-economic development, known for his strong advocacy of ethical leadership.
Tinyiko Majapholo, founder of the fashion brand Nyiko Ya Wena and an award-winning designer from Limpopo, whose work celebrates self-expression and authenticity.
Pinky Elsie, a dedicated fashion advocate and designer committed to promoting sustainable and eco-conscious fashion within local communities.

Event Highlights
The day’s program was expertly hosted by Phindile Ngamela “XhosaBoy” Mbotshane, whose charisma and energy kept the audience engaged and inspired throughout. The event also featured a moving address from Motivational Speaker Kamogelo Kgole, who delivered an empowering message on passion, purpose, and perseverance.
Thato Modise from Vuyani & Soks shared heartfelt words of encouragement that resonated deeply with attendees, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and sustainable community growth.

Gratitude was also expressed to Vuyani & Soks Security Team and Maperiperi Community First for their professionalism and partnership, ensuring the event ran smoothly and safely.
A special highlight of the afternoon was a striking runway presentation by F Wear Brand, featuring recycled denim creations that challenged perceptions of waste materials and showcased the true potential of sustainable design.
Entertainment and Performances
The event featured an impressive entertainment lineup that blended music, poetry, and dance. Hip hop artists Ona ke Mohau and Morena YounGee delivered high-energy performances, while poets Palesa Olyn and Koketso Manailane presented a thought-provoking piece on waste management. The dance group Squad sa Mshaya added rhythm and movement to the celebration, with DJ 8Milli keeping the atmosphere vibrant between runway segments.
