The African National Congress (ANC) in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Region successfully concluded its 9th Regional Conference this weekend, marking a pivotal moment for the party’s North West structures as they transition into a new era of governance. Held at the Madiba Banquet Hall from March 14 to 16, 2026, the conference brought together hundreds of delegates under the strategic theme: "Uniting and Rebuilding the Organisation for Effective Service Delivery and the Advancement of the People’s Revolution."
The three-day gathering served as both a political audit and a renewal platform, focused on streamlining local government and addressing the socio-economic challenges facing the district.

Provincial Leadership Sets the Tone
The conference commenced with a high-stakes keynote address by the ANC North West Provincial Chairperson, Cde. Dumile Patrick "Nono" Maloyi. Addressing a packed hall, Maloyi emphasized the necessity of internal stability, warning that factionalism remains the greatest threat to the "People’s Revolution." He urged delegates to prioritize the needs of the electorate over individual ambitions, particularly as the party prepares for upcoming local government transitions later in the year.
Maloyi’s address set a disciplined tone for the proceedings, framing the regional conference as a foundational step toward a broader provincial "clean-up" and revitalization process intended to restore public confidence in the ANC-led administration.

Election Results: A New Mandate
One of the most anticipated segments of the conference was the election of the Regional Executive Committee (REC). The voting process resulted in a leadership collective tasked with navigating the region through the 2026 political landscape.
The newly elected regional officials are:
Regional Chairperson: Cde. Gaba Thithiba ka Qhele
Deputy Regional Chairperson: Cde. Zanele Mphafudi
Regional Secretary: Cde. Pat Mthoa
Deputy Regional Secretary: Cde. Wanda Moilwa
Regional Treasurer: Cde. Disebo Motaung

Strategy and Commissions
Following the announcement of the leadership results on day two, delegates transitioned into specialized commissions. These closed-door sessions were dedicated to the "State of the Organisation" and the "Balance of Forces," with a heavy emphasis on building a capable and responsive government.
Discussions centered on the 2026 Year of Decisive Action, with delegates outlining specific steps to improve municipal performance in areas such as water sanitation, road maintenance, and economic transformation within the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District. The commissions' outcomes form a roadmap that the new REC is expected to implement immediately to ensure the movement remains a dominant force for change in the North West.

The 9th Regional Conference concluded with a sense of renewed purpose, as the newly elected officials committed to fostering a "government of the people." By aligning regional goals with the provincial strategy of rebuilding, the ANC in Dr Kenneth Kaunda aims to turn the conference's theme into tangible results for the residents of Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, and surrounding areas.
