The hum of engines and the sight of classic airframes will return to the Free State this April as the Parys Annual Taildragger Fly-In prepares for its 2026 edition. Scheduled from 10 to 12 April, the event remains a highlight on the local aviation calendar, welcoming pilots and enthusiasts from across the country to the Parys Airfield (FAPY).
While the name highlights the "taildragger" community, organisers have confirmed that all aircraft types are welcome. The weekend serves as a social gathering for the flying fraternity, though the gates are equally open to those arriving by car.

Saturday’s Main Event
The bulk of the action is set for Saturday, 11 April. Visitors can expect a steady stream of arrivals throughout the morning, with various aircraft on display for a closer look.
The day is designed to be family-friendly, featuring a reptile educational show for children and a jumping castle. For those staying on-site or arriving early, a buffet breakfast will be served on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Music and Hospitality
As the sun sets on Saturday, the focus shifts from the runway to the hangar area. A live band will provide the evening’s entertainment, accompanying a traditional communal braai. Braai packs will be available for purchase on-site, ensuring visitors can enjoy the atmosphere without the need to lug heavy catering supplies along.
Logistics and Pilot Info
The landing and registration fee is set at R100, which also serves as an entry into a lucky draw. Pilots should note the following airfield specifications:
Runway: 06/24 (1343m x 20m Asphalt)
Elevation: 4740ft
Frequency: 123.500
Fuel: Avgas and Jet A1 are available; Mogas is available on request.
For those planning to stay over, camping facilities are provided at the airfield. Additionally, transport has been arranged for guests staying at local guest houses in the area, making it easier to attend the evening festivities.
