As South Africa prepares to honor the enduring legacy of Tata Nelson Mandela, a vital community-led initiative is taking center stage in the North West province. Tomorrow, Friday, 17 July 2026, the Bacha Pele Community Centre will host a transformative Mandela Day event titled "Men of Our Community".
Guided by the powerful theme, "It is still in our hands to combat poverty and injustice," this gathering aims to spark deep, constructive dialogues around the roles, challenges, and responsibilities of men in modern society.

Strong Men, Strong Families, Strong Communities
At the heart of this year’s event is a call to collective responsibility. The organizers believe that addressing the challenges faced by men is central to healing and uplifting entire neighborhoods. Under the banner of "Strong Men. Strong Families. Strong Communities," the dialogue seeks to redefine traditional expectations and highlight a healthier standard of leadership.
As the event’s core philosophy beautifully puts it:
"Real strength is protecting, providing, listening and leading with respect."
Critical Conversations: The Discussion Topics
To address the multifaceted issues affecting men and boys today, the event will feature dedicated panel discussions and open-floor sessions covering several critical areas:
Mental Health & Well-being: Breaking the silence and stigma surrounding men's mental health.
Substance Abuse Awareness & Support: Finding pathways to recovery and community support systems.
Crime Prevention & Community Safety: How local men can actively foster safer environments.
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness & Support: Standing actively against GBV and supporting survivors.
Positive Masculinity & Respectful Relationships: Promoting emotional intelligence, empathy, and respect.
Employment & Self-Development: Equipping men with tools for personal and professional growth.
Men as Role Models & Community Leaders: Mentoring the next generation of young boys.
A Powerful Coalition of Support
Reflecting the scale and importance of these topics, the event is backed by an impressive coalition of government departments, law enforcement, non-profits, and local businesses.
Key partners joining hands for this initiative include:
Government & Law Enforcement: The South African Police Service (SAPS), National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and the North West Provincial Government's departments of COGTA, Social Development, and Health.
Local Municipalities & Public Bodies: JB Marks Local Municipality and the Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa.
Community & Youth Development Organizations: Ponelopele Sechaba Youth Development, Ba Ikageng Foundation, and Community-Based Programmes (CBP).
Sponsors & Corporate Partners: Letsatsi Finance and Loan, and MEG.
