Carletonville’s very own Charmaine Venter has etched her name into the history books by winning gold at the 2025 IMMAF World Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia. Competing in the under 65.8 kg featherweight division, the 31-year-old fighter represented South Africa with distinction, defeating some of the world’s most skilled kickboxers to secure the coveted title.

The Global Stage: IMMAF 2025 in Tbilisi, Georgia
The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) World Championships, hosted from 27 September to 2 October 2025, brought together elite fighters from across the globe. Recognised as one of the largest amateur martial arts tournaments worldwide, the event featured competitors from over 60 nations, all striving for international recognition in their respective weight divisions.
Venter’s journey to the top began earlier in the year when she earned her spot on Team South Africa after clinching gold at the national championships in Durban. Her selection placed her among only ten South Africans chosen to compete internationally, a remarkable achievement for a local athlete.
Path to Glory: From Carletonville to World Champion
Throughout the tournament, Venter displayed exceptional technical skill, composure, and stamina. Her route to victory saw her triumph over opponents from Ukraine, India, and Finland, before entering the final bout against a strong contender from Mexico. Each fight went the full duration, showcasing her endurance and strategic adaptability.
During the final rounds, the intensity peaked as all matches were consolidated into a single main cage, drawing a roaring audience. Competing under immense pressure, Venter maintained precision and tactical control, ultimately overpowering her rival to claim the world title.
Technical Excellence and Coaching Support
Venter’s success reflects years of disciplined training under the mentorship of Shihan Chimmy van Winkel, head instructor at Fight St XKT Kickboxing Club in Carletonville. Their collaboration has been instrumental in refining her technical ability, conditioning, and competitive mindset, qualities that stood out on the world stage.
The IMMAF scoring system emphasises clean striking, defensive movement, and ring control, all of which Venter executed with precision throughout her bouts. Her victory contributed to South Africa’s strong overall performance, reinforcing the nation’s growing prominence in international martial arts.
Inspiring a New Generation
Beyond personal achievement, Venter’s success is a source of pride for her hometown and an inspiration for young athletes across South Africa, particularly for girls entering combat sports. Her accomplishment underscores the growing inclusivity within martial arts and the expanding global recognition of female fighters.
A Triumph Beyond the Ring
Charmaine Venter’s 2025 IMMAF World Championship victory represents more than just an individual milestone, it stands as a testament to perseverance, community support, and the strength of South African sport on the global stage. From local training gyms to international arenas, her achievement showcases what can be accomplished through dedication and discipline.
