The stage is set for one of the most exciting community sporting events of the year , the Cashibe Mayor’s Cup, proudly returning in 2025 with a special focus on the June 16 Games. Scheduled to take place from 13 to 16 June 2025, this dynamic tournament is more than just a showcase of athleticism; it is a powerful tribute to South Africa’s youth, community unity, and the enduring spirit of June 16.

Organized by Cashibe, in collaboration with local leaders and stakeholders, the Mayor’s Cup brings together youth from various wards to compete in soccer, netball, and volleyball, with impressive prize money on the line:
🏆 Soccer Champions will walk away with R20,000
🏆 Netball Winners will earn R10,000
🏆 Volleyball Victors will receive R5,000
These prizes are not only a reward for excellence but also a motivational boost for aspiring young athletes across the region.
Honoring History Through Sport
The timing of the tournament is deliberate and deeply meaningful. Held over Youth Day, the event pays homage to the courageous students of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, whose legacy continues to inspire generations. The June 16 Games offer a unique way to commemorate this history , through active participation, community collaboration, and empowerment of the younger generation.
How to Participate
Participation in the tournament is open to teams who register through their ward councillors. The registration fee is R3,000, and interested groups are encouraged to act early to secure their place. This decentralized registration system ensures fair access and encourages engagement at the local level.
A Community United by Sport
Beyond the competition, the Cashibe Mayor’s Cup fosters community cohesion and provides a platform for youth to shine. It’s an opportunity to:
Showcase emerging talent
Build teamwork and leadership skills
Promote healthy living and discipline
Strengthen ties between wards, families, and community structures
For many, the tournament is also a festive occasion, a time for families to gather, communities to cheer on their teams, and young people to experience the camaraderie and joy that sport brings.
Looking Ahead
As the dates draw closer, anticipation is growing. Local teams are already training, coaches are finalizing their strategies, and community members are preparing to support their players with full enthusiasm.
The 2025 Cashibe Mayor’s Cup promises not only high-stakes matches and electrifying energy but also an unforgettable reminder of what communities can achieve when they come together for a greater purpose.
