The City of Matlosana finds itself at a critical juncture of community activism and public safety management this March. As the municipality prepares for a high-profile demonstration of social unity, it simultaneously navigates the complexities of digital misinformation and provincial security oversight. These developments highlight the ongoing efforts by local leadership and law enforcement to maintain stability and address the social ills affecting the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District.

Peaceful Prayer Walk Targets Gender-Based Violence
In a proactive move to address the scourge of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), the Office of the Single Whip of Council has announced a community-led initiative aimed at spiritual and social healing. Led by Cllr Rosy Thabanchu, the municipality, in partnership with Moral Regeneration and various local stakeholders, will host a Peaceful Prayer Walk against GBV.
The event is designed to foster a sense of collective responsibility and support for victims of domestic and gender-based crimes. Participants are scheduled to gather on Friday, 20 March 2026, starting at 09:00. The planned route will see marchers move from Leratong Street through to Mokati Hall, serving as a visible symbol of the "City of People on the Move" standing against violence. For those seeking further details, the municipality has provided contact lines at 018 487 8006 and 065 881 7240.

SAPS Refutes Assassination Rumors involving Local Councilor
While the city prepares for its peaceful march, the South African Police Service (SAPS) provincial management has been forced to intervene regarding a security scare in Manzilpark, Klerksdorp. On 13 March 2026, SAPS officials issued a formal statement refuting a viral social media narrative claiming that a Matlosana councillor had survived an assassination attempt.
According to the official police report, the incident in question was actually an attempted hijacking of a neighbor’s vehicle. While shots were fired and two neighboring vehicles sustained damage, the SAPS confirmed that the councillor was not present at the scene and was not the intended target. Provincial management and the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District leadership expressed concern over the "malicious" nature of the false posts, warning that the spread of unverified information causes unnecessary public panic. Authorities have signaled that they may take decisive action against individuals found to be intentionally circulating distorted reports.

As the City of Matlosana moves toward the end of the month, the contrast between the upcoming prayer walk and the recent misinformation highlights the dual challenges of social reform and digital era policing. By promoting active community participation through the March 20th event and demanding accountability in public discourse, the municipality continues to work toward a more transparent and safer environment for its residents.
