City of Matlosana intensified its focus on three key areas of community service: public safety awareness regarding fraudulent disconnection scams, technical interventions to resolve sewer blockages, and support for local women-led economic development projects. These efforts align with broader municipal goals to promote infrastructure reliability, civic trust, and social empowerment.

⚠️ Scam Alert: Public Warned About Fake Disconnection Agents
The Municipality has issued a fraud alert warning residents of scammers falsely claiming to be municipal agents responsible for electricity disconnections. These imposters reportedly approach residents for unauthorized payments and threaten electricity shut-offs.
Residents are reminded that only municipal employees are authorized to carry out disconnections and reconnections of electricity. No third-party service provider has been appointed for such actions.
Safety Tips Issued:
Do not allow unknown or unauthorized individuals onto your property.
Only make payments at municipal offices or through official payment channels (municipal bank account, Pay@, or Easypay).
To report suspicious activity, residents are urged to contact:📞 018 487 8559 / 8558
In further support of this campaign, Cllr Motome Mangesi, MMC for Electrical Engineering, appeared live on Star FM on 7 August 2025 at 18:20 to provide additional insights into the nature of these scams and municipal protocols.

🚽 Sewer Blockage Cleared on Jouberton Pine Line
The Department of Sewer in the City of Matlosana successfully completed a major unblocking operation on the Jouberton sewer main pine line. The operation uncovered extensive waste and foreign materials that had been improperly discarded into the sewer system.
The municipality issued a strong appeal to residents to avoid disposing of objects and waste into sewer lines, as such actions lead to serious blockages, potential property damage, and costly repairs.
The unblocking highlights the need for both improved infrastructure maintenance and community education around responsible waste disposal practices.

🤝 Women’s Month Focus: LED Department Partners with Iketsetseng Basadi Project
In recognition of Women’s Month, Cllr Wesley Kgang, MMC for Local Economic Development (LED), visited the Iketsetseng Basadi Project on 7 August 2025. This Jouberton-based NPO is a safe haven and empowerment initiative for women who have survived gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide.
Founded by Yvonne Sesing, Ntswaki Dodovu, and Rev. Fr. Bulungu Nkeba, the organisation offers skills training in vegetable farming and poultry breeding as a means of restoring dignity and promoting economic self-reliance.
The City of Matlosana’s LED department has pledged to collaborate with the project to identify opportunities for support and business development. This initiative forms part of the city’s broader commitment to inclusive economic participation and gender equality.

Final Note
The City of Matlosana’s recent actions demonstrate a multi-pronged approach to community engagement, combating fraud, maintaining infrastructure, and supporting vulnerable residents. As these developments unfold, the municipality continues to prioritise safety, service integrity, and social empowerment across all wards.
