The City of Matlosana has finalized a series of technical and environmental maintenance tasks aimed at addressing infrastructure needs and public hygiene. Over the third week of February 2026, the municipality’s Electrical Engineering and Community Services departments were deployed to various regions, including Oudorp, Kanana, and Hartbeesfontein. These operations were conducted to resolve persistent electrical faults and to manage waste in high-traffic public spaces, ensuring that municipal assets remain functional for the local population.

Electrical Engineering Department Finalizes Repairs in Oudorp and Extensions
The City’s Electrical Engineering Department has confirmed the completion of several maintenance projects over a two-day period. In Oudorp, technical teams focused on restoring visibility by fixing street lights along Trens Erasmus Street and the main road passing the Golf Course. The work required a coordinated effort involving underground cable repairs and the use of specialized trucks for tree cutting to prevent future interference with power lines.
In Extensions 14 and 16, the department performed high-level technical interventions on several transformer control boxes. The following specific tasks were documented:
Transformer Control Box 17261: Teams conducted extensive fault finding, resulting in a complete rewiring of the 11kv control box. This included the installation of a 220v contactor and the replacement of multiple circuit breakers (3 × 63A and 3 × 20A).
Lighting Upgrades: To improve night-time safety, a day-night switch was installed at control box 17261. Furthermore, 100w LED fittings were installed at several locations, including units 15552, 15572, 15556, 17263, 17255, 15494, and 154584, following successful fault-finding procedures.

Community Cleansing Operations in Kanana and Hartbeesfontein
In a parallel effort, the Community Services Department focused on environmental health through its "Love Your Street" Campaign. The initiative targeted areas prone to illegal dumping and sought to restore the aesthetic value of community landmarks.
The cleansing teams reported the following activities:
Educational and Social Hubs: Cleaning of the open spaces between Kanana Secondary and Mmokeng Secondary Schools, as well as the grounds near the Methodist Church and the Maradona sports field.
Waste Management: Clearing of the Kanana graveyard and the removal of illegal dumping sites throughout the township.
District Maintenance: Litter picking was conducted across the Orkney and Hartbeesfontein CBDs, and maintenance work was carried out at the Hartbeesfontein Landfill site.

The Office of the Executive Mayor stated that these tasks are part of an ongoing commitment to maintain a clean and healthy environment for both residents and visitors. These efforts are designed to ensure that public spaces remain accessible and free of hazards.
The City of Matlosana continues to monitor these areas to ensure that the repairs and cleaning efforts are sustained through regular municipal cycles.
