The City of Matlosana held a Thuntsa Lerole community feedback session in Jacaranda, focusing on service delivery, infrastructure, and community development. The initiative forms part of the municipality’s ongoing effort to strengthen direct engagement with residents and bring government services closer to communities.
During the event, Executive Mayor Cllr Fikile Mahlophe urged residents to register for indigent subsidies, emphasizing how these support programs are vital in assisting low-income households. He explained that the municipality remains committed to improving the quality of life for all citizens, particularly those in vulnerable circumstances.

Addressing Housing and Infrastructure Challenges
One of the central topics discussed was the delay in the Jacaranda Housing Development Project. Originally intended to provide essential infrastructure, such as water, electricity, and roads, the project has faced disruptions caused by administrative and procedural blockages. Mayor Mahlophe acknowledged the frustration of affected residents and assured them that the municipality is working to resolve the challenges hindering progress.
Residents expressed concerns regarding incorrect municipal billing, unreliable water and electricity supply, and the slow pace of service rollout. They also raised issues related to youth unemployment and the limited availability of local job opportunities within municipal projects.

Voices from the Community
Community members appealed for stronger prioritisation of vulnerable groups in housing allocations. They specifically requested that persons with disabilities and the elderly receive priority placement in upcoming housing phases. Additional concerns included the lack of scholar transport and the need for speed humps to improve road safety in the area.
These discussions reflected a strong sense of civic participation, with residents taking an active role in identifying and addressing local challenges.
Visible Service Delivery Efforts
As part of the Thuntsa Lerole program, municipal officials and supporting government departments rendered on-site services, including:
Cleaning of illegal dumping sites.
Unblocking of sewage systems.
Distribution of title deeds to rightful beneficiaries.
These efforts were complemented by outreach services from both local and district departments, ensuring residents could access government programs and administrative support directly.

Working Together for Progress
The Thuntsa Lerole initiative in Jacaranda underscored the City of Matlosana’s intention to foster stronger collaboration between the municipality and its residents. Through continued engagement and transparency, the program aims to build trust, improve accountability, and deliver tangible results in service delivery and community development.
