The City of Matlosana has entered a period of intensive operational activity, marked by a series of wide-ranging service delivery projects and significant administrative changes. Following recent high-level engagements with the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) through the "Taking Parliament to the People" programme, the municipality has shifted its focus toward addressing long-standing community grievances and stabilizing its financial leadership. This surge in activity highlights the local government's efforts to balance routine maintenance with the urgent infrastructure demands voiced by its residents.

Comprehensive Infrastructure and Sanitation Repairs
Over the past week, the Roads and Community Services Departments have executed an "accelerated service delivery" program under the Love Your Street Campaign. This initiative saw a heavy focus on the Kanana and Jouberton areas, where teams conducted road grading at the Maradona open field and various extensions. Resurfacing projects were completed on Monica, May, and Mbebane streets to improve transit safety. Simultaneously, the Cleansing Section addressed environmental concerns through litter picking in the Klerksdorp CBD, illegal dumping clearance near Vuselela College, and extensive grass-cutting along the N12 corridor.
The Sewer Department has been particularly active following direct feedback from residents during the NCOP sessions. Technical teams were deployed to Alabama, Tigane, and Orkney to resolve blockages and spillages. Officials noted that many of these issues stemmed from the misuse of the sewer system and vandalism. Consequently, the city has issued a plea to the public to refrain from discarding foreign objects into the network to prevent recurring overflows.

Strategic Water Interruption and Financial Leadership
In addition to sanitation efforts, the municipality implemented a planned water supply interruption on May 16, 2026, to facilitate the routine cleaning and disinfection of Reservoirs 2 and 3 in Brook, Orkney. This maintenance was deemed essential for ensuring the long-term quality of the water supply, with water tankers deployed to mitigate the impact on affected households.
On the administrative front, the City of Matlosana officially appointed Ms. Tsaone Sekgala as the Acting Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective May 15, 2026. Appointed under Section 56 of the Municipal Systems Act, Ms. Sekgala is tasked with managing the municipal budget, revenue, and supply chain processes. This appointment is viewed as a strategic move to bolster financial governance and ensure compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act as the city navigates its current infrastructure upgrades.

As the City of Matlosana continues to implement these service delivery mandates, the focus remains on reducing the existing backlog and maintaining the momentum generated by recent provincial oversight. Through a combination of infrastructure repairs, public awareness regarding utility usage, and stabilized financial leadership, the municipality aims to foster a more resilient and responsive local government environment for its citizens.
