The City of Matlosana has continued its citywide accelerated service delivery programme, undertaking a series of coordinated infrastructure, maintenance, and public health improvement projects across the municipality.
Between 23 and 28 October 2025, multiple departments, including Electrical Engineering, Roads and Stormwater, Community Services, and Technical Infrastructure, carried out essential operations in both the Klerksdorp CBD and surrounding townships.

⚙️ Infrastructure and Electrical Maintenance in the CBD
On Thursday, 23 October, the Department of Electrical Engineering conducted maintenance work on streetlights in the Klerksdorp central business district, ensuring improved lighting and public safety.
In Irenepark, the Roads Department performed road marking and other surface maintenance along Chris Hani Road as part of the municipality’s “Love Your City” campaign, an initiative aimed at beautifying and restoring public spaces.
The Department of Community Services undertook cleaning operations along Voortrekker Street, focusing on hawkers’ stalls and trading areas to maintain a clean and healthy environment for informal traders. In addition, the Sewer Department installed a new manhole chamber in Willow Street, improving local sanitation infrastructure and drainage efficiency.

🚧 Ongoing Road Improvements and Sanral Partnership
On Tuesday, 28 October, road maintenance efforts continued across the city in partnership with the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral).
Sanral teams carried out resealing and patching work on the N12 near OMV Crushers and OR Tambo Street, one of the city’s main transport routes through the CBD. The crews also completed road marking and curb cleaning in multiple areas, enhancing traffic safety and urban aesthetics.
This collaboration between Sanral and the City of Matlosana Municipality forms part of an ongoing strategy to improve local road conditions, strengthen infrastructure resilience, and ensure safer, more reliable travel for all road users.
🛠️ Critical Service Delivery in Kanana Township
Also on 28 October, the Technical and Infrastructure Directorate carried out critical service delivery operations in Kanana Township, focusing on unblocking the main sewer network and grading local roads to improve mobility and sanitation.
In parallel, the Community Services Directorate led efforts to clear illegal dumping sites across the township, restoring cleaner and safer public environments for residents.

🌆 Commitment to Sustainable Urban Management
All these interventions form part of the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, as directed by the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Fikile Mahlophe, and the Municipal Council.
The city’s integrated approach, involving interdepartmental coordination and partnerships with external agencies, continues to advance its goal of maintaining efficient infrastructure, reliable basic services, and a cleaner urban landscape for the residents of Matlosana.
