City of Matlosana Local Municipality Concludes 2026 Mandela Day Outreach and EPWP Initiatives

The City of Matlosana Local Municipality executed a series of community outreach programmes and municipal initiatives across the region during mid-July 2026. Aligned with the national 67 Minutes for Mandela Day campaign, the local government collaborated with private companies, provincial departments, and community organisations to deliver essential supplies, educational equipment, and infrastructure support to various local facilities, alongside inducting new public works participants.

Final Disability Outreach Programme Held in Jouberton

On Saturday, 18 July 2026, the municipality concluded its three-part disability outreach initiative with a gathering at Jouberton Hall. Organized by the Local Economic Development (LED) Directorate in partnership with the Matlosana Legazi Project Foundation, the event followed prior visits to the Mohau Disability Centre in Khuma and the Folang Disability Centre in Kanana.

Supported by external partners, including Naos Solar Project, Herotel, the South African Police Service (SAPS), and the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), the municipality distributed food hampers, toiletries, clothing, and other essential items.

During the event:

• SAPS Representatives delivered information regarding the protection of social grants and mechanisms for reporting financial abuse.

• Herotel discussed the role of internet infrastructure in facilitating education and economic engagement.

• MMC for LED, Cllr Wesley Kgang, addressed attendees regarding institutional support and inclusion for persons with disabilities.

• Local Participants, including Molebogeng Tsieco and community performers, contributed traditional dance and poetry presentations.

Municipal Employee Assistance Programme Visits Local Care Facilities

On 17 July 2026, municipal staff participating in the City of Matlosana Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) conducted outreach visits to local care centres. Executive Mayor Cllr Fikile Mahlophe, Assistant Director for Human Resource Management and Development (HRM&D) Ms. Alice Mbotshane, and representatives from the Department of Health visited the Tshepong Crisis Centre and the Emanuel Old Age Home.

The visits included the delivery of toiletries and food parcels to support daily operations at both facilities. Municipal officials received briefings from facility administrators on the services provided to survivors of gender-based violence at Tshepong Crisis Centre, as well as the historical context and care operations managed at Emanuel Old Age Home.

Educational Resource Distribution to Early Childhood Development Centres

Concurrently on 17 July 2026, Speaker of Council Cllr Stella Mondlane-Ngwenya led a delegation to two Early Childhood Development (ECD) facilities: Flower ECD Centre in Khuma and Tiisetso ECD Centre in Kanana.

The municipality delivered physical and educational resources to support the learning environments, including:

• Tables and chairs

• Visual aids and educational learning materials

• Dining plates and daily essential items

In her address to local educators, Cllr Mondlane-Ngwenya highlighted the role of early childhood education in community development and early civic education.

Private Sector Collaboration Supports Alabama Care Home

The Office of the Executive Mayor, in coordination with Ward 3 Councillor Farouk Tagaree and the Veers Group, conducted a joint handover at the Rethabile Multi Centre Old Age Home in Alabama on 17 July 2026.

The facility, which has operated for 15 years under the leadership of Miekie Phagwe, currently houses 30 elderly residents. To assist with facility conditions, the donation drive supplied the centre with the following items:

Induction of 100 EPWP "Botle Ke Botle" Participants

Prior to the weekend outreach programmes, the Department of Community Services held an orientation session on Thursday, 16 July 2026, for 100 Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) recruits who joined the municipal system in June 2026.

The participants are assigned to the "Botle Ke Botle" beautification initiative under the direction of Director Mr. Pheello Setona. Coordinated by PMU Project Data Coordinator Ms. Brenda Solane, the induction featured presentations from Mr. Samuel Nhlapho (National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure Training Unit) and Mr. Vincent Mamathaba (Manager of Environment and Culture Sector). The session covered operational expectations, workplace safety standards, financial literacy, and the delivery of public services.

Through these scheduled public programs and inter-sectoral collaborations, the City of Matlosana Local Municipality addressed immediate operational needs at local social support centres while advancing temporary employment frameworks within the municipality.
