The City of Matlosana Local Municipality is currently navigating a period of service delivery and community engagement. As of late May 2026, the municipality has activated several key projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for its residents, ranging from critical water infrastructure maintenance and road repairs to the promotion of public health through large-scale wellness events. These initiatives reflect a multi-faceted approach to municipal management, balancing the technical demands of civil engineering with the social requirements of public welfare.

Essential Water Maintenance in Hartebeesfontein
The municipality has announced a planned water supply interruption scheduled for Saturday, 30 May 2026. This suspension of service will affect the entire Hartebeesfontein area from 06:00 to 18:00. The primary objective of this shutdown is the cleaning and disinfection of the Hartebeesfontein 3.5 ML and 5 ML reservoirs.
According to municipal officials, this maintenance is vital for ensuring the continued reliability of the water supply infrastructure and adhering to water quality standards. While the municipality has urged residents to store sufficient water for domestic needs, it has also committed to deploying water tankers to assist affected parts of the community during the 12-hour window.
Municipal-Wide Road Maintenance and Repair Programme
Parallel to utility maintenance, the City of Matlosana is pursuing its road infrastructure improvement programme. The initiative focuses on a combination of pothole patching, grading, and resealing to improve road safety and driving conditions across various suburbs.
Current priority sites include:
Klerksdorp: Pothole patching on Desmond Tutu Street and road repairs at the intersection of Chris Hani, Ian Street, and Wilkeville.
Kanana: Grading operations on JD Khumalo Street (Extension 24) and patching on Khotso Street.
Flamwood & Wilkoppies: Ongoing grading and patching on Central Avenue, with patchwork nearing completion on William Street.
Jouberton: Grading operations on Phuthaditshaba Street.
The municipality has requested that motorists exercise caution and adhere to temporary traffic control measures while these works are carried out.

Dr KK EMS Wellness Day: Promoting Health and Charity
Beyond physical infrastructure, the municipality is supporting the Dr KK EMS Wellness Day on Saturday, 30 May 2026. This event, organized in collaboration with the North West Provincial Government’s Department of Health and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), serves as both a fitness initiative and a charitable drive.
Starting at 06:30 am, participants will engage in a 5km Health Walk and Run from Matlosana Mall to the Recreation Centre. The event features a diverse itinerary including aerobics, indigenous games, and on-site health screenings. Notably, the entry fee for the event is a donation of sanitary pads, highlighting a focus on social responsibility and supporting menstrual hygiene within the district. The event also features a specific dress code, with EMS staff in green and pink, and other participants encouraged to wear pink and white.

As the City of Matlosana moves forward with these projects, the local government continues to emphasize the importance of resident cooperation. By addressing both the underlying infrastructure needs and the health of the populace, the municipality seeks to foster a functional environment for its citizens.
Residents seeking further information regarding these projects or the upcoming wellness event are encouraged to contact the municipal communications office or the designated event coordinators.
