Residents of Potchefstroom, including the communities of Promosa and Ikageng, woke up without electricity this morning as a major power outage struck the area. The incident, which began before sunrise, left households, businesses, and traffic lights without power, causing widespread disruption and uncertainty.

Cause and Investigation
According to early information, a failure occurred at Eskom’s Britzkop Substation along the N12 when a jumper component broke. The fault triggered a trip at the Potch Distribution Substation, which supplies electricity to the rest of the city. Electrical teams have been dispatched to isolate the affected section at Britzkop and begin restoration efforts.
Impact on the Community
The outage has affected all sectors of Potchefstroom, including residential areas, business districts, and outlying communities. Without prior warning, many residents were caught off guard as their morning routines were interrupted, while businesses faced delays in opening and essential services experienced operational challenges.
Restoration Efforts Underway
Technical teams are working to restore power as quickly as possible, though no official restoration time has been confirmed. Residents are urged to remain patient and take necessary precautions when using alternative power sources to avoid accidents during the outage. Updates will follow as new information becomes available.
