The City of Matlosana Local Municipality is currently overseeing a comprehensive suite of social development programs and essential infrastructure projects. From high-level community outreach initiatives to critical geological road alerts, the municipality is focusing on balancing long-term economic growth with immediate public service requirements.

Government Services and Economic Support in Kanana
On Tuesday, 21 April 2026, the Office of the Speaker, led by Cllr Stella Ngwenya-Mondlane, executed a multi-stakeholder outreach program at the Ikaheng Disability Centre in Kanana. The initiative successfully brought various government departments and parastatals directly to the community to streamline access to essential services.
Key services provided during the event included:
Social and Civic Support: Assistance from SASSA, the IEC, and the Aurum Institute.
Municipal Administration: On-site registration for finance services and the processing of title deeds.
Infrastructure: Reporting and coordination for road and general repairs.
In a move toward local economic stimulation, the Bokamoso Solar Project utilized the event to hand over specialized equipment to local Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs). MMC for LED, Cllr Wesley Kgang, highlighted that this Corporate Social Investment (CSI) is a pillar for local economic participation. Cllr Ngwenya-Mondlane emphasized that such direct engagements are vital for strengthening the relationship between the government and the residents of Kanana.

Traffic Alert: N12 Diversions in Stilfontein
The municipality has issued an urgent traffic notice for motorists traveling the N12 corridor between Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp. Due to the emergence of sinkholes in the Stilfontein area, traffic is currently being diverted to ensure public safety. Authorities urge road users to remain vigilant and strictly follow the directions of traffic officers on duty to avoid congestion and potential hazards.

Infrastructure Management: Water and Sewerage Updates
The City of Matlosana is addressing several critical utility matters this week:
Planned Water Interruption: Residents in Kanana Extensions 5, 6, 13, 14, and 15 should prepare for a water supply interruption on Thursday, 23 April 2026, from 08:00 to 16:00. This is necessary for the repair of a burst pipe in Extension 6.
Sewer Line Integrity: A public awareness campaign has been launched to identify the leading causes of sewer blockages. The municipality cites illegal connections, vandalism, and the disposal of foreign objects (such as fats, building materials, and nappies) as primary factors in system failures. Residents are reminded to report overflows to the municipal call center at 018 487 8611/8524.

Upcoming Community Health and Wellness Events
Two significant public events are scheduled to promote community health and environmental appreciation:
5KM Fun Walk (27 April 2026): Partnering with the Thabo Pelesane Foundation, the municipality will host a charity walk at Matlosana Stadium. Entry requires a R30 registration fee and a donation of toiletries or sanitary pads. The morning includes aerobics and a dialogue session for teenagers.
Hike, Chill & Braai (1 May 2026): A 6 km hiking event will take place at the Faan Meintjes Nature Reserve. Starting at 08:00 AM, the event invites residents to enjoy local wildlife and outdoor recreation for an entry fee of R40.

The City of Matlosana continues to urge residents to remain active in community programs while staying informed about local infrastructure repairs and safety notices.
