The Potchefstroom community will gather on Monday, 8 December 2025, to celebrate the life of Johnathan Robert Fourie, whose tragic passing has left a deep void among family, friends, and colleagues. A Celebration of Life service will take place at Duet Gemeente, 5 Govan Mbeki Avenue, Van der Hoff Park, Potchefstroom, beginning at 11:00. The event will also be live-streamed on the Fourie’s Poultry Farms (Chubby Chick) Facebook page, allowing those unable to attend in person to join in remembrance online.

Honouring a Life of Dedication and Impact
The upcoming memorial will serve as an opportunity for the community to share stories, memories, and moments that capture Johnathan’s warmth, leadership, and enduring influence. The service aims to reflect his life’s values: compassion, family, and community, through a gathering of those whose lives he touched.

A special candlelight remembrance was held on 13 November 2025 at Chubby Chick, where rows of candles illuminated the premises in honour of Johnathan’s memory. The poignant tribute, attended by employees, friends, and supporters, symbolised unity, loss, and collective gratitude for his life and contribution to Potchefstroom’s business community.
Ongoing Support and Recovery
While the community continues to mourn, focus also remains on the recovery of Deon Fourie, who was critically injured during the tragic incident earlier in November. As of Wednesday, 26 November, encouraging signs of improvement have been reported. Deon remains in critical but stable condition, and his medical team has described gradual progress.
He has begun responding to verbal cues, opening his eyes, and attempting to speak, with one heartwarming moment shared by those at his side when he opened his eyes and gently remarked, “so busy.” His family reports that he reacts positively to familiar voices and the ongoing presence of loved ones.
The Fourie family has expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support received from across the community. Messages of encouragement, prayers, and visits continue to uplift the family as they navigate this challenging period. The family has especially thanked the dedicated doctors and nursing staff who have remained by Deon’s bedside throughout his treatment.

The Celebration of Life on 8 December will serve not only as a memorial for Johnathan but also as a testament to the resilience of a community standing together in support of those enduring loss and recovery.
