Cricket Officials Set to Level Up: Inside the 2025/26 Training Calendar

The North West Cricket Scorers Association (NWCSA) has released its annual planner for match officials for the 2025/26 season. With a structured and tiered approach to scorer training, Potchefstroom will host several key sessions aimed at equipping new scorers and upskilling those already in the system. These workshops form part of a wider provincial initiative to build capacity and maintain excellence in cricket officiating across the North West province.

This article outlines all Potchefstroom-based course dates, eligibility requirements, fees, and course content, from beginner Level D to the most advanced, by-invitation-only sessions.
Level D: Foundation Course & Refresher
Date & Venue:
28–29 June 2025 | 09H00 | JB Marks Oval A
Facilitators: A. Parsons & B. Qaba
Course: Introduction to Cricket & Scoring / Refresher
Assessment: Level D Refresher & Exam
Eligibility & Requirements:
This foundational course is ideal for newcomers. After completing the Level D course, participants are required to submit four match scorecards as homework. These must be emailed to either Basetsana Qaba (basetsana@cricket.co.za) or Karabo Nkagisang (knkagisang@gmail.com) by the specified deadline.
Once approved, candidates become eligible to write the formal exam. A passing result will earn them the CSA Level D Scoring Certificate, a critical stepping stone for further training.
Cost: R400
Note: A minimum of 10 paid-up candidates is required for the course to go ahead.
Level C: Intermediate Manual Scoring Course

Course: Advanced Manual Scoring / Refresher
Eligibility & Requirements:
To enrol in this Level C course, candidates must already hold a CSA Level D Scoring Certificate. This course is structured to refine scoring techniques, introduce more complex match scenarios, and improve scoring accuracy.
Cost: R350
Note: As with Level D, a minimum of 10 registered participants is required for the course to proceed.
Level B: Advanced Manual & Cricket Laws

Course: Advanced Manual Scoring & Cricket Laws / Refresher
Eligibility & Requirements:
This course is designed for those who have already earned their Level C certificate. With a focus on cricket laws, real-time scenario interpretation, and high-level accuracy, this level further prepares officials for top-level match duties.
Cost: R300

Advanced Scorers Courses (Invitation Only)
Dates & Venue:
05 July 2025 | 10H00 | JB Marks Oval | M. MakganyeCourse Focus: Computer Scoring (StellaVMS)
09 August 2025 | 10H00 | JB Marks Oval | K. PillayCourse Focus: Computer Scoring (Product & DLS)
Eligibility & Requirements:
These sessions are exclusively for officials who have been invited based on experience and prior certification. The focus here is on computer-based scoring systems, including the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method for rain-affected matches and the StellaVMS software used widely in professional scoring.
