The JB Marks Local Municipality has officially announced a scheduled water supply interruption affecting several key sectors of the Potchefstroom Region. This planned shutdown is a strategic move to facilitate essential infrastructure upgrades at the Ventersdorp Road Pump Station, ensuring long-term water security for the community.

Purpose of the Shutdown
The temporary suspension of service is required to allow onsite contractors to install a new 200kW Motor and Pump. This high-capacity equipment is part of a broader municipal effort to modernize the local water system. By replacing aging components, the municipality aims to significantly improve the reliability and sustainability of the water supply, reducing the risk of unplanned bursts and pressure drops in the future.
Schedule and Affected Areas
The shutdown is strictly scheduled for Monday, 19 January 2026, beginning at 06h00 and expected to last until late in the evening. Residents and businesses located in the following areas should prepare for a complete lack of water pressure during this window:
Healthcare & Military: Witrand Hospital and the SANDF Base.
Residential Hubs: Kanonierspark, Dassierand, Promosa, and Mohadin.
Extensions & Storage: All Ikageng Extension Areas and the Eesterandjies Reservoirs.
Preparatory Measures
In light of the interruption, the Municipality urges all affected residents to make necessary arrangements. This includes storing a sufficient volume of water for drinking, cooking, and sanitary needs prior to the Monday morning start time. While the technical teams aim to complete the installation as swiftly as possible, the complexity of the 200kW motor integration requires a full day of labor.
The JB Marks Local Municipality has expressed its sincere apologies for the inevitable inconvenience this maintenance may cause. However, officials emphasize that this short-term disruption is a vital investment in the city’s infrastructure, ultimately providing a more stable and efficient water network for all residents.
