The City of Matlosana has mobilised its Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) contingent to conduct a focused street cleaning and litter-picking drive in the Klerksdorp Central Business District (CBD) on 11 December 2025. This proactive initiative is designed to ensure the city maintains a clean and healthy environment for both residents and visitors during the heightened activity of the festive season and into the new year.
The deployment of EPWP workers is a key component of the municipality's broader "Love Your Street" campaign, aimed at fostering civic pride and improving the local environment.

Targeted Cleaning for Maximum Impact
The EPWP workers, assigned to the City of Matlosana, concentrated their efforts on several high-traffic and critical areas within the Klerksdorp CBD to maximise the impact of the clean-up. The targeted locations included:
Commissioner Street
Margaretha Prinsloo Street
Siddle Street
Golf Street
All major intersections
The Tambai Taxi Rank
By focusing on the CBD, the economic and transportation heart of Klerksdorp—the campaign directly addresses areas that experience the highest volume of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, which often correlate with increased litter accumulation. The inclusion of the Tambai Taxi Rank is particularly significant, as transport hubs are essential public spaces that reflect on the city's overall cleanliness and organisation.
Reinforcing Service Delivery
The Executive Mayor's office extended a sincere appreciation to the Public Works and Roads Department for their diligent work and for managing the EPWP workers. This recognition highlights the EPWP's role in augmenting the capabilities of the permanent Community Services Department.
The EPWP, a government initiative, provides poverty relief and temporary employment by creating work opportunities in public-service related sectors like infrastructure, environment, and social services. In this context, the EPWP workers are not only contributing to a cleaner city but are also gaining valuable work experience and income.
The municipality views this enhanced effort as critical, stating that the work "will go a long way in keeping our city clean and healthy during this festive season and beyond." A clean environment is a cornerstone of public health, aesthetics, and economic appeal, making these cleaning operations essential for the sustained well-being of the City of Matlosana. By actively demonstrating a commitment to cleanliness, the municipality aims to encourage residents to take ownership of their surroundings, reinforcing the core message of the "Love Your Street" campaign.

Sustaining Civic Pride
This focused clean-up operation, coinciding with the Mayor's other festive season initiatives like the Christmas lights switch-on, underscores the municipal leadership's holistic approach to governance, blending celebratory events with fundamental service delivery. A clean city is a direct outcome of good governance and contributes significantly to the overall quality of life for its residents. By ensuring the CBD is presentable, the City of Matlosana is setting a positive tone for the holiday period, promoting civic pride, and supporting local commerce which relies on a pleasant urban environment.
The "Love Your Street" campaign is thus positioned as a continuous drive towards a healthier, more appealing city throughout the year.
