Kids Farm Camp Returns in October
Catchu Kube just outside Parys will once again host its Kids Farm Camp, running from 5 to 8 October 2025. The camp is open to boys and girls aged 11 and older, and promises a hands-on taste of farm life mixed with plenty of outdoor fun.
What’s on the Programme
Children will pitch their own tents, look after sheep and chickens, and hike through the Vredefort Dome. The days will be filled with activities such as building a farm fence, learning how to crack a whip, and woodwork projects that can be taken home afterwards. Evening sessions will wind down around a campfire, with night walks under the stars.
For those who prefer water to dust, the long slide and farm dam are included in the entertainment. Traditional farm games and other camp challenges round out the programme.
Practical Details
The camp starts on Sunday 5 October at 15:00 when children arrive to set up their tents. Collection takes place on Wednesday 8 October from 16:00.
The cost is R1400 per child, with a discounted rate of R1260 per child for families sending more than one. Previous campers also qualify for the reduced rate.
What to Pack
Campers need to bring a tent, bedding, toiletries, clothing that can get dirty, a warm jacket, swimwear, walking shoes, Bible and notebook, sunscreen, hat, mosquito repellent, water bottle, pocket money for the tuck shop, and any necessary medication.
Parents are asked to provide medical aid details, as swimming takes place in a zinc farm dam about 2.2 metres deep.
Background
The camp is run from a Christian perspective, with daily Bible study included. Dr Johan Steytler, a registered social worker and psychometrist who has worked with children since 1996, oversees the programme.

This year’s camp keeps the formula simple: give children a few days away from screens, some new skills, and the chance to come home a little dustier than when they left.
