Fatal Electrocution in Kokosi: Public Warning Issued After High-Voltage Incident

The Local Municipality issued a Public Notice regarding a fatal electrical incident that occurred in the early hours of Friday, December 5, 2025, in the Extension 1 Ring Breaker area involving a high-voltage electrical installation. An unidentified male individual was tragically electrocuted in the incident.

Details of the Incident and Investigation
The incident occurred at approximately 03:00. According to preliminary information, the individual was allegedly involved in the illegal removal of an earth wire from a high-voltage pole. It is suspected that during this activity, the earth wire became loose, came into contact with a live high-voltage conductor, resulting in instant electrocution.
Municipal officials, accompanied by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), attended the site at approximately 08:45. The deceased person was found lying on the ground near the pole, and a shovel was located next to the body. The earth wire was observed to have been forcibly removed from the pole. A forensic pathologist arrived at approximately 09:10 to formally remove the body for further medicolegal investigation.
Following the clearing of the scene by SAPS, the municipal technical team removed the damaged earth wire from the power line, and the electricity supply to the area was safely restored.
The Municipality confirmed that an extensive investigation will be conducted in accordance with applicable South African legislative prescripts. The purpose of this investigation is to:
