Birds, Binoculars and Banter Await at Monthly Meeting
The Feathers Bird Club is inviting locals and curious newcomers to its May club meeting, no birdwatching experience required, just a dash of interest in things that flap and fly. This month’s gathering is scheduled for Thursday, 29 May 2025 at 18:00, and will take place at Sally Martin Park Retirement Village, 13 Muller Street, Parys.
Proudly sponsored by Crater Coffees (because birders need their brew), the meeting promises to be a blend of social and educational conversation. Or in Feathers-speak: “Sosiaal & Opvoedkundig (alle ouderdomme)” all ages welcome, as long as you're interested in birds and willing to laugh at the occasional duck pun.
Wetlands and Wagtails: A Look at the Parys Wetlands Project
This month’s topic? The Parys Wetlands Project. The evening will explore how this initiative is supporting environmental conservation and helping Parys maintain its natural charm, one muddy footprint at a time. Expect a mix of science, local knowledge and probably a bird call demonstration or two.
Who’s Behind the Binoculars?
The Feathers Bird Club isn’t just for twitchers and veteran bird-nerds. It’s a casual, community-driven group that runs monthly meetings like this one, along with members-only birding excursions within a 30 km radius of Parys. Whether you can ID a hadeda in flight or still think all ducks are just “ducks,” you’re welcome.
No Membership? No Worries
While some activities are for members only (like the jaunts into the veld), the monthly meetings are open to everyone. Pull in with your neighbour, your kid, or your gran. The point is to share, learn and maybe get excited about something with feathers that isn’t a pillow.
