As part of a continued effort to upgrade local infrastructure, the City of Matlosana’s Roads and Stormwater Section has initiated road patching and paving works in the Central Business District (CBD) today, January 21, 2026.
The current operations are focused on Lombaard Street, a key artery within the CBD. This project is designed to address significant surface deterioration and potholes that have hindered traffic flow and compromised safety for motorists. By restoring these damaged sections, the municipality aims to create a more user-friendly environment for daily commuters and local businesses.

Commitment Amid Resource Constraints
The City acknowledged that while it is currently operating under limited resources, the maintenance of critical infrastructure remains a high priority. The work on Lombaard Street is part of a broader strategy to incrementally improve service delivery and road conditions across the municipality as resources become available.
Safety Advisory for Residents
To ensure the safety of both workers and the public, the City has issued the following guidance:
Exercise Caution: Motorists are advised to be vigilant when traveling through Lombaard Street.
Expect Disruptions: Temporary traffic delays may occur while the paving and patching are in progress.
Future Works: Residents can expect similar maintenance initiatives to be rolled out in other areas as part of the City’s ongoing service delivery goals.
Summary of Recent Municipal Activities
With the addition of this infrastructure project, the City of Matlosana’s current agenda highlights a diverse range of community services:
Education: Distribution of 75 pairs of school shoes in Ward 18.
Public Safety: Launch of "Learn-to-Swim" programs for the elderly and disabled.
Infrastructure: Vital road repairs on Lombaard Street to improve CBD traffic.
Through these combined efforts, the municipality continues to work toward its mandate of improving the quality of life for all residents under its motto, "City of people ON THE MOVE."
