As the final days of June unfold, JB Marks Local Municipality has provided another detailed account of service delivery progress across several operational areas. From improving road surfaces and managing sewage blockages to water reservoir levels and electricity repairs, the update outlines active efforts and ongoing priorities in Potchefstroom and surrounding regions.

🛣️ Roads & Paving Projects
Rietief & Luke Street Intersection
Repairs at the intersection near Pick n Pay continue, with 90% of surface preparation complete and 10% of potholes squared off. In addition, work was expanded into Luke Street, where:
60% of potholes have been squared and filled with crusher sand.
Final hot asphalt surfacing is pending delivery.
Bloemetjie Street
This area is also nearing completion, with only a few squared potholes remaining before asphalt application can fully close out the repairs.
Chief Albert Luthuli & Louis le Grange Intersection
This paving project has been fully completed and is scheduled to be opened for public use on Friday, marking a milestone in municipal road infrastructure improvements.
⚡ Electricity Services
Technicians have completed several key tasks this week:
Replacement of two street lights on Walter Sisulu Avenue after vehicle-related damage.
Medium-voltage line repairs in Extension 9 to restore stable supply.
Completion of cut-offs and reconnections involving:
45 disconnections
21 reconnections

🚽 Sewage Maintenance and Spillages Resolved
Multiple sewage blockages were cleared across the city, including:
Nkosi Street (Brother & Sister Church) – Drain successfully unblocked
Raditsabeng, Malo, Moledi, Kopane, Maaroganye, and Ipopeng Streets – Blockages removed
King Food Hostel (behind Sasol) – Cleared and functioning
Ward 11 Sewer Project Update
Phase 1 earthworks are now 90% complete.
Preparation using dam rocks and G5 compaction is underway.
The next step involves installing larger sewer pipes, moving the project closer to functional use.

💧 Reservoir Levels and Water System Monitoring
Old Works Reservoir
Current Level: 77.27% (↓ from 81.82%)
Status: Stable but under observation
Serves: Potchefstroom CBD, Extensions 1–3, Mohadin Industrial Area
Vyfhoek System
6.4ML Tank: 89.29% – Stable, though decreasing
3.4ML Tanks (x2): Still isolated due to 315 pipeline construction, reducing system redundancy for Promosa and Extension 11
Ventersdorp Complex
9.5ML Reservoir: 67.86% – Steadily decreasing
13.5ML Reservoir: 64.29% – Below optimal threshold
15ML Reservoir: 57.14% – Low level, priority pumping required
➤ Supplies high-lying areas of Ventersdorp
Ikageng System
Main Tank: 81.82% – Stable
Ikageng West: 100% – Operating at full capacity, covering Extensions 4, 8 & 9
Eesterandjies Reservoir
5ML Tank: Empty – Critical condition
➤ Tankers are supplying clinics and schools
10ML Tank: Isolated and under maintenance
➤ Estimated time to reactivation: 48 hours

♻️ Waste Collection and Illegal Dumping
General Collection
Household bins, business waste, and hotspot collection have all been completed at 100%.
Illegal Dumping
Two prominent locations have been cleared:
Ikageng Library (Bathoeng Street)
Corner of Maphongo & Lekhele Streets, near Boitshoko High School
🚨 Engineering Priorities and Public Advisory
Action Items
Investigate declining water levels at Old Works
Accelerate completion of the 315 pipeline at Vyfhoek
Prioritize pumping for Ventersdorp 15ML tank
Diagnose and resolve refill issue in Eesterandjies 5ML tank
Advisories
Residents in Extension 10: Use tanker-supplied water responsibly
Ventersdorp households: Reduce non-essential water usage while reservoirs stabilize
🔄 Closing Perspective
With asphalt deliveries pending and several sewer and water projects progressing steadily, JB Marks Municipality continues to move forward on core infrastructure tasks. However, declining reservoir levels in Ventersdorp and Eesterandjies signal the need for swift interventions. Stable performance in zones like Ikageng and Old Works offers some balance to the broader service landscape.
