The JB Marks Local Municipality has announced the launch of its Arrive Alive Festive Campaign, a seasonal road safety initiative aimed at reducing accidents and encouraging responsible driving during the busy holiday period. The programme forms part of the municipality’s broader efforts to improve community safety across Ventersdorp and Potchefstroom, supported by the Department of Community Safety, Roads & Transport Management.

Leadership Behind the Initiative
The campaign is led by Cllr. Leon Musa Mkhabela, a Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Community Safety, Roads & Transport Management, alongside Cllr. Thabo Macdonald Molhathsi, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee overseeing the same department. Both officials emphasised the importance of heightened vigilance on the roads as traffic volumes increase over December.
The municipality highlighted that festive-season road incidents consistently spike nationwide, making targeted safety activations essential to protect motorists, pedestrians, and public transport passengers.
Campaign Activities and Schedule
The Arrive Alive Festive Campaign includes two key road safety awareness events focused on driver and passenger education. Activities will take place as follows:
1. Driver & Passenger Safety Awareness
Date: Monday, 08 December 2025
Region: Ventersdorp
Venue: N14 Coligny Road
Time: 09h00
2. Driver & Passenger Safety Awareness
Date: Friday, 12 December 2025
Region: Potchefstroom
Venue: N12 – Rocher Street
Time: 09h00
These activations will involve roadside engagements, vehicle checks, distribution of safety information, and educational interactions aimed at reducing preventable risks on public roads.
Focus on Festive Season Risks
Authorities noted that December typically brings increased long-distance travel, public transport movement, and alcohol-related incidents. The campaign seeks to curb reckless driving, speeding, and road rule violations by encouraging responsible behaviour among all road users.
The municipality also encouraged drivers to ensure vehicle roadworthiness, obey speed limits, and prioritise passenger safety. Public transport operators, in particular, were urged to comply with regulations to ensure safe travel for holiday commuters.
The Road Ahead
The Arrive Alive Festive Campaign represents a proactive step by the JB Marks Local Municipality to safeguard residents and visitors during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. By combining public awareness, road safety education, and law enforcement visibility, the programme aims to reduce accidents and support safer journeys across the region.
