The JB Marks Local Municipality has issued an urgent public notice following a temporary water supply interruption that has left several areas in Potchefstroom without water. The outage, which began on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, was initially caused by a leaking main valve.

Technical Setbacks Delay Restoration
According to an official statement released by the municipality's Communication Unit on Thursday, 25 June 2026, the Water, Sanitation, and Environment Team worked late into Wednesday night to repair the leak and install a replacement valve. However, during the installation process, technicians discovered that the new valve's size was incompatible with the newly installed pipe.
The municipality confirmed that a correctly sized valve would be collected and fitted first thing on Thursday morning. While an exact time for full service restoration has not been specified, authorities expect water flow to normalize as soon as the correct part is securely installed.
Affected Areas and Emergency Water Supply
The service interruption is primarily impacting residents and facilities in the following areas:
Dassierand
Parts of The Bult
Kannoniers Park
To mitigate the impact on local community members and critical infrastructure, the municipality is deploying water tankers. Tankers are scheduled to arrive at designated points between 08h00 and 09h00 on Thursday, 25 June 2026, and will remain in service to supply water as required.
The designated water truck deployment points include:
Witrand Hospital
The Bats Flats (outside the parking area)
Michael Heyns Park
Kannoniers Park
Corner of Rissik and Jan Smuts Streets (The Bult)

The JB Marks Local Municipality has extended its apologies to affected residents for the inconvenience caused by the technical delay. Officials thanked the community for their patience and understanding, assuring the public that every effort is being made by the technical teams to restore the normal water supply as quickly and safely as possible.
