The JB Marks Local Municipality has officially announced its upcoming Market Day, a strategic initiative designed to stimulate local economic growth and showcase the diverse cultural talent within the region. Scheduled for late March, the event represents a collaborative effort between municipal departments and the Potchefstroom Tourism Association to provide a platform for small businesses and performers.

Driving Economic Growth through SMME Support
At the forefront of this initiative is Cllr. Malverine Davis, the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Local Economic & Rural Development. The municipality has issued a call to all local Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) to register for stall space, emphasizing the event as a key opportunity to market services and boost the local economy.
Registration for business stalls is open until March 20, 2026, via a dedicated WhatsApp line (063 325 2197). This focus on SMMEs aligns with the municipality’s broader Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for the 2025/2026 period, which prioritizes enterprise development and socio-economic stability in the Potchefstroom and Ventersdorp regions.
A Platform for Arts and Culture
In addition to its economic objectives, the Market Day serves as a cultural showcase under the guidance of Patricia Mtshali, the MMC for Sport, Arts & Culture. The municipality is inviting practitioners in the performing arts to book spots for live talent showcases.
The Department of Sports, Arts & Culture is managing the verification and booking process for performers, with a deadline also set for March 20, 2026. This component of the event aims to foster community spirit and preserve local heritage through live performances and vibrant cultural displays.
Event Logistics and Public Engagement
The event is set to take place at the LERD Office, Tourism Information Center Parking Lot. Residents and visitors can expect a full day of activities starting from 10:00 AM.
Date: Friday, 27 March 2026
Time: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Key Features: Live performances, local food vendors, and business exhibitions.
The municipality has highlighted that drawing tourism to "JB Marks City" is a primary goal, reinforcing the town's position as a hub for both commercial activity and artistic expression in the North West Province.
By integrating local commerce with community entertainment, the JB Marks Local Municipality seeks to create a sustainable model for municipal engagement that benefits both entrepreneurs and the general public. As the registration deadline approaches, the local government continues to encourage participation to ensure a comprehensive representation of the region’s capabilities.
