JB Marks Long Weekend Recap: From Road Closures to Market Day Success to Submitting Readings

The long weekend from 1 to 5 May 2025 brought a range of developments across JB Marks Municipality. While many residents took advantage of the public holiday break, key municipal activities continued, including road upgrades, service updates, and economic support events. From license office disruptions and delays in refuse removal to active road closures and a vibrant local market, the municipality maintained essential operations and community engagement efforts throughout the extended weekend.

Road Infrastructure and Works
Peter Mokaba and Chief Albert Luthuli Intersection
On 4 May, road teams made significant progress in paving and applying crushed sand at the intersection of Peter Mokaba and Chief Albert Luthuli Drive. This forms part of a broader infrastructure upgrade and urban improvement program.
Road Closure Alert: 5 May

Economic Development: Local Market Day Success
On 3 May, JB Marks Local Municipality, in collaboration with the Potchefstroom Tourism Association, hosted a Local Economic Development Market Day at Ikageng Memorial Park.
This event offered a platform for Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) to:
Showcase local products and services
Promote economic growth and entrepreneurship
Strengthen community connections
Attract local and visiting customers
The municipality continues to support such initiatives as part of its vision for sustainable, inclusive economic development and social cohesion.

Licensing Services: Temporary Disruption & Advisory
As per the municipal communication issued on 3 May, licensing services have been temporarily affected due to technical difficulties within the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management.
Normal operations are expected to resume by Tuesday, 6 May 2025.
Residents are advised to check for updates before visiting the license office.
Driver’s License Cards: Delays at National Level
The machine responsible for printing driver’s license cards nationally is currently out of service. This machine processes between 15,000 and 19,000 cards daily, and no timeline has been confirmed for its repair. Residents awaiting their new license cards are advised to apply for a temporary license, which remains valid for six months.

Refuse Removal: Monday Schedule Delays
Refuse collection on Monday began later than usual. Municipal teams confirmed that all scheduled bags on the Monday route would be collected before the end of the day. No changes have been announced for the rest of the week’s collection schedule.
Water and Electricity Readings: Submission Process
Residents can continue submitting their water and electricity readings via email between the 1st and 10th of each month.
How to Submit:
Include your name, account number, address, stand number, and meter readings for water and electricity, along with the date.
Attach clear photos of your meters if possible.
