Consecutive Mechanical and Infrastructure Challenges

The JB Marks Local Municipality has provided an updated report on ongoing service disruptions affecting both refuse collection and water supply across parts of the municipality.The situation began on Monday, 13 October 2025, when multiple refuse removal trucks experienced mechanical breakdowns, causing missed collections across four routes. On Tuesday, 14 October 2025, the impact extended further as additional vehicles broke down, and operations at the Ventersdorp Water Treatment Plant continued to face interruptions due to emergency mechanical and electrical failures.

Municipal officials confirmed that technical and engineering teams are actively addressing the issues, with work continuing around the clock to minimize inconvenience to residents.

Refuse Collection Delays: Eight Routes Affected Over Two Days

The municipality confirmed that a total of eight routes have been affected by refuse collection delays between Monday and Tuesday, due to the simultaneous failure of several municipal trucks.

The municipality extends its sincere apologies to residents affected by these interruptions and confirms that repairs to the damaged trucks are underway. Once mechanical work is complete, backlog collections will be prioritized.

Residents are encouraged to keep refuse securely stored to prevent littering and interference by stray animals. An updated collection schedule will be issued once the fleet is fully operational.

Water Supply Breakdown: Ventersdorp Operations Still Underway

The municipality also continues to attend to the emergency breakdown at the Ventersdorp Water Treatment Plant, which began on Monday, 13 October 2025.The malfunction, caused by a failure in key mechanical and electrical components, has forced the municipality to temporarily decommission the new plant while repairs are conducted.

In the interim, water supply is being maintained through the old treatment plant, which cannot meet full demand. As a result, low pressure or intermittent water availability remains an issue in Tshing and Ventersdorp town.

Replacement parts have been ordered and are expected to arrive imminently, after which the Water Services Department will proceed with immediate installation and system testing to restore full capacity.

Residents are urged to use water sparingly during this period to help stabilize supply levels until the plant returns to normal operation.
