The JB Marks Local Municipality’s Department of Art, Culture, and Heritage, in partnership with The Alley, hosted an exciting and educational outreach programme for Grade R learners at Vyfhoek Primary School today. Led by the department’s Arts, Culture & Heritage and Library Services units, the initiative aimed to spark creativity, promote reading, and cultivate cultural appreciation among young learners.

A Day of Creativity and Joy:
The outreach event transformed Vyfhoek Primary into a space filled with laughter, imagination, and learning. Activities were thoughtfully curated to engage children while introducing them to the value of artistic and cultural expression.
Highlights of the day included:
Dance Exercises – Encouraging creativity, rhythm, and confidence through fun movement activities.
Interactive Book Reading – Bringing stories to life with expressive storytelling to foster a love for books and imagination.
A Vibrant Puppet Show – Capturing the attention of young learners while delivering positive messages about friendship, kindness, and curiosity.
These activities were not only entertaining but also educational, designed to support early literacy, cognitive development, and emotional growth through creative exploration.

Promoting Heritage and Reading Culture:
According to the Department of Art, Culture, and Heritage, the key goal of this initiative is to promote the museum and library as vital community learning spaces. By introducing cultural institutions to children at a foundational level, the programme seeks to instill a lifelong appreciation for heritage, reading, and self-expression.
This initiative reflects JB Marks Municipality’s continued commitment to inclusive education and cultural development, ensuring that the next generation grows up with strong connections to their local heritage and creative identity.

Way Forward:
The success of the Vyfhoek Primary outreach serves as a model for future programmes that will expand across the JB Marks region. The Department of Art, Culture, and Heritage plans to continue its partnerships with schools and community organizations to nurture young readers and future cultural ambassadors.
