The JB Marks Local Municipality has concluded a series of high-impact events aimed at spiritual reflection, economic empowerment, and public safety. Spanning from March 26 to March 27, 2026, these initiatives brought together government departments, law enforcement agencies, and local entrepreneurs to address the diverse needs of the Potchefstroom and Ventersdorp communities. By fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors, the municipality continues to prioritize both the social well-being and the economic resilience of its residents.

Spiritual Unity at the Inter-Departmental Easter Service
On March 26, the Madiba Banqueting Halls in Potchefstroom served as the venue for a solemn and unifying Inter-Departmental Easter Service. The event brought together various government sectors and law enforcement agencies, including the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Correctional Services, to observe the Easter period through communal prayer and reflection.

The service featured powerful musical contributions from the SAPS brass band and youth ensembles in ceremonial regalia, creating an atmosphere of reverence. Dignitaries and department members dressed in black, many adorned with yellow ribbons, gathered to seek spiritual guidance and reinforce their collective mission of service to the community. This annual gathering underscores the municipality's commitment to moral support and psychological wellness for those serving on the front lines of public duty.

Economic Stimulation and Cultural Heritage at JB Marks Market Day
Following the spiritual observance, the municipality shifted its focus to economic growth on March 27. The Department of Local Economic & Rural Development, in coordination with the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture & Heritage, hosted the JB Marks Market Day at the Tourism Information Center. Supported by the Potchefstroom Tourism Association and the provincial DEDECT, the event functioned as a strategic platform for Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs).
The Tourism Information Center’s parking lot was transformed into a bustling marketplace featuring:
Diverse Retail: Gourmet food, high-end fashion, bespoke fragrances, and unique artworks.
Professional Services: Stalls offering financial consultations, property solutions, and automotive expertise.
Cultural Exhibition: A specialized feature by the local Museum showcasing a replica of the historic Boskop Skull, aimed at educating the public on provincial heritage.
Cllr. Malverine Davis (MMC: Local Economic & Rural Development) and Cllr. Patricia Msthali (MMC: Sport, Arts, Culture & Heritage) were in attendance, highlighting the municipality's drive to bridge the gap between local talent and commercial opportunity.

Strengthening Informal Trade and Road Safety Activations
In a parallel effort to formalize the local economy, the Enterprise Development Section partnered with Absa to host a Certificate Award Ceremony at the Potchefstroom Town Hall. This ceremony recognized informal traders who have successfully navigated business compliance requirements. The partnership provides these entrepreneurs with institutional support and professional insights, essential for scaling their businesses within the formal economy.

Simultaneously, with the 2026 Easter Holidays approaching, the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport Management launched a high-impact #ArriveAlive activation on the N14 Road in Ventersdorp. This multi-disciplinary law enforcement operation is designed to increase visibility and ensure road user compliance during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Through these coordinated efforts, the JB Marks Local Municipality demonstrates a comprehensive approach to governance that balances spiritual heritage, economic development, and public safety. By celebrating local artists, empowering informal traders, and securing the province's roads, the municipality remains dedicated to its mission of building a North West Province that serves all its citizens effectively.
