JB Marks Municipality Provides August Service Delivery Overview

On 31 August 2025, JB Marks Municipality published its verified monthly progress report, detailing service delivery achievements across road infrastructure, electricity, water services, sewage management, waste collection, and reservoir stability. The August report highlights significant strides made in improving critical infrastructure, despite persistent challenges such as cable theft, water shortages, and sewage blockages.

The municipality emphasised that the month’s successes were driven by coordinated workforce efforts, innovative solutions, and direct community engagement. The report outlines both completed projects and focus areas for September, reflecting a commitment to sustained improvement.
🚧 Road Infrastructure & Patching
Supervised by Gift Lebele and Isaac Masilo, the road maintenance team completed nine major projects during August. Efforts were concentrated on business corridors and hospital access routes to minimise disruptions and prevent economic displacement.

Forsman Street (Ward 04) – Full rehabilitation from Tlokwe Brewery to King Liquor junction
Chief Albert Luthuli & Govan Mbeki Intersection – Restored after electrical excavation
Walter Sisulu Street – Stormwater and pothole repairs
Kruis Street – 100% pothole repair near Engen Garage
Grimbeeck Street – Restored as critical hospital access line
Eleazer & Wilgen Street – Asphalt replacement
Sarafina Street (Ward 19) – 70% completion under Valazonke initiative
Botha Street – 100% completion securing hospital access
⚡ Electricity Department Achievements
The Technical Services team for the Tlokwe region reported a 98% service availability rate despite challenges with repeated cable theft and vandalism.
🔧 Fault Repairs:
Repaired faults at Makaku, Sarafina, and Kamp Street
Replaced stolen cables in Sylvia, Gardenia, and Promosa Baipei
Restored a 200kVA transformer and multiple substation supply lines
🛠️ Pole Installations:
New poles in Botoka, Curlewis, and Retief Street
CCTV-preparation pole installed in Curlewis
💡 Streetlight Restorations:
More than 15 streets across Promosa, Retief, Sol Plaatjie, Ikhutseng, and Aganang benefited from restored lighting
🏗️ High Mast Lighting:
New installations in Promosa (Ward 13), Ward 26, and Sarafina
Repairs in Phalakgomo, Themba, and Makweteng

💧 Water Services & Sonder Water Project
Led by supervisors Ntate Kometsi and colleagues, the water team achieved comprehensive coverage across August, focusing on meter repairs, pipe bursts, valve maintenance, and new connections.

🚽 Sewage Spillage Management
Supervised by Ntate Motsamai and his team, the municipality addressed 57+ sewage spillages across August, ranging from school facilities to main streets.

Blockages cleared in Sarafina, Tlhalerwa, and Khuti Streets
Indian Centre fatberg removed mechanically
Illegal connections removed in Matsitse

🧰 Special Project – Sokhweba:
Collapsed 250mm pipe, 2.1m deep excavation
Completed on 28 August with full restoration

🚜 Yellow Fleet Support
Under Isaac Gula’s leadership, the heavy machinery fleet supported road, water, and sewage teams.

Gravel road grading in Ward 18, Ward 20, and Greenfield

Phase 2 sewer pipeline excavation in Ward 11
🗑️ Waste Management Success
Mme Felicity’s team delivered 100% daily household and business waste collection throughout August.
Highlights:
31 consecutive days of uninterrupted bin collection
8 illegal dumping sites cleared
Hotspots maintained daily
💧 Reservoir System Performance
While the JB Marks reservoir network remained mostly stable, certain clusters, especially along Ventersdorp Road, experienced concerning declines.
📉 Key Findings:
Old Works Reservoir dropped from 95.45% to 86.36%
Vyfhoek 6.4ML reservoir carried the northern suburbs supply load
Ventersdorp Road cluster saw the sharpest decline, with one reservoir nearing the 50% emergency threshold
Ikageng area reservoirs improved from 78% to full capacity in parts due to leak repairs
Eesterandjies reservoirs remained isolated for inspection and corrosion repairs

Mid-September completion of Vyfhoek maintenance expected
Leak detection patrols and tanker deployments remain priority
