JB Marks Service Update: Road Works Pause, Power Fixes, and Water Line Repairs Underway

As of Wednesday, 06 August 2025 at 19:55, the JB Marks Local Municipality issued a verified daily progress report detailing ongoing and completed service delivery tasks across all wards. The update highlights developments in roadworks, electricity maintenance, water and sewage response, and waste collection, reflecting the municipality’s active role in restoring and maintaining essential infrastructure for its communities.

🛣️ Road Repairs Temporarily Paused Due to Material Delays


Road maintenance crews have temporarily paused paving and pothole patching operations due to a delay in material supply. Affected streets include:


  • Madi Street

  • Wilgen Street

  • Kruis Street


Work is expected to resume on 12 August 2025, with teams standing by to recommence operations upon delivery of materials. A public notice has been issued advising residents to expect minor travel disruptions from 8 August as preparations begin.


Electricity Department Work Completed and Ongoing


5 August Highlights:


  • Streetlight repairs completed on:

    • Letsatsi Street

    • Protea, Erica, Japonika, Watsonia & Iris areas

    • Potch Dam (including lighting and stoves)

  • Pole Replacements:

    • Goetz Street & 30 Gani Street: 9m poles fully replaced

    • Ext 11 (16246): 9m pole installation in progress 🟡

  • Cable Work Completed:

    • Klerk (stolen line)

    • Cosmya (burned cable)

    • Strydom Street (fault repair)

    • Beyers Naude (stolen line)


6 August Highlights:


  • Critical Electrical Fixes:

    • Rissik Street (105): Steel pole replaced

    • Boom Street: Stolen line replaced

    • Adolf Willemse (56): LV cable joined

  • Lighting Upgrades:

    • Jeugd Street: Repairs completed

    • Rivier Street: New control system installed

    • Boom Street: Conductor repaired


💧 Water Services – Dassirand Supply Line


A dedicated six-person crew is currently repairing the main supply line on Dassierand Road, which is causing temporary low water pressure in Extension 7. Residents are advised of potential fluctuations in water availability while the work is ongoing.


🚽 Sewage Blockages Cleared Promptly


The municipality’s rapid response team successfully addressed several sewer incidents:


  • Mandela Street (ZCC area): Fatberg removed

  • Middle Street (6695): Tree roots extracted

  • Munchulumi (6060): Solid waste cleared

  • Mosidi Street (934): Emergency unclogging completed


These interventions are aimed at restoring hygienic conditions and reducing overflow risks in affected neighborhoods.


🗑️ Waste Collection and Illegal Dumping Update


  • Waste Collection Achievements:

    • 28,450 household bins

    • 1,890 business premises

    • 12 hotspot areas


  • ⚠️ Illegal Dumping Target Identified:

    • New case reported on 6 August near Lewis Furniture Store in the CBD.


The municipality is expected to dispatch clean-up crews promptly to address the issue.
