JB Marks Update: Delay in Municipal Bills and Temporary Hold on Free Electricity Tokens

The JB Marks Local Municipality has issued an official notice regarding a temporary disruption to the indigent electricity token program. This announcement, dated 7 July 2025, affects eligible households that receive municipal support through free or subsidized electricity units. The update comes as part of administrative procedures aimed at finalizing month-end accounts and addressing financial backlogs.

According to the public notice, the indigent token service, which provides free or subsidized electricity to qualifying low-income and vulnerable residents, has been paused until further notice.


The delay is directly linked to:


  • Unresolved outstanding levies

  • Month-end financial reconciliation and system updates

  • Ongoing backend procedures to ensure accountability and smooth token delivery

Municipal officials have acknowledged the importance of this service, especially during the current winter season when electricity demand is high. The communication unit reassured the public that the municipality is working diligently to complete the necessary internal procedures as quickly as possible.

While this temporary pause in token issuance may cause inconvenience for some households, the municipality has emphasized its commitment to restoring the service promptly.
