Kanana Experiences Temporary Water Interruption During Major Line Repair

The City of Matlosana Local Municipality has confirmed the successful completion of urgent water line repairs in Kanana, following a planned interruption that took place on Wednesday, 08 October 2025, from 07:00 to 20:00.

The repair operation addressed a major leak on the main water line, which had been identified as a priority due to its impact on water pressure and supply reliability in several extensions.

Areas Affected

During the maintenance period, residents in Kanana Extensions 5, 6, 13, 14, and 15 experienced either low water pressure or temporary loss of supply while municipal technicians carried out the repair and stabilization process.

Water services have since been fully restored, and the system is now operating at normal capacity.

Purpose and Outcome of the Maintenance

According to the Water Services Department, the operation involved locating and repairing a significant underground leak that was contributing to pressure fluctuations within the network. The team also inspected nearby valves and connectors to prevent future failures and ensure consistent water flow across the affected zones.

Municipal engineers described the intervention as both preventative and corrective, designed to improve water reliability and minimise long-term infrastructure strain.

Municipal Statement

In a statement issued today, 9 October 2025, the City of Matlosana thanked residents for their cooperation during the planned outage and reiterated its commitment to proactive maintenance and infrastructure sustainability.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding shown by Kanana residents while our teams conducted the necessary repairs. These operations are essential to ensure continuous and reliable water services,” the municipality said.

The municipality added that the early identification and timely repair of the leak prevented potential escalation, which could have caused broader supply challenges.

Ongoing Infrastructure Commitment

The City of Matlosana continues to prioritise the upgrading and preservation of its water infrastructure, with scheduled maintenance programs and rapid-response teams deployed to address leaks and bursts across all regions.

Residents are encouraged to report any visible leaks, bursts, or irregular pressure immediately via the city’s service reporting channels to help maintain efficient water management.
