Kayo Stars FC Joins Pride Wellness & Advocacy Event to Commemorate Youth Day

On June 16, South Africa paused to reflect on the historic significance of Youth Day. In the heart of Ikageng, at Skoti Park, Kayo Stars Football Club chose to honor the day through action, solidarity, and community engagement.

Invited by the Ikageng Foundation, the football club proudly participated in the Pride Wellness & Advocacy Safe Space Event. The initiative brought together key advocacy groups—including FEW, Gender Links, Queerwell, and Kayo Stars—for a powerful day centered on health, inclusion, and youth empowerment.

The event succeeded in creating a secure, welcoming environment where young athletes and community members could connect, share lived experiences, and tackle the pressing issues facing today’s youth.

Key Highlights of the Day

The programme was structured around holistic well-being and social advocacy, breaking down barriers through open dialogue:

• Wellness Check-In: Mind & Body This supportive session provided a dedicated space for individuals to express themselves freely. Discussions focused heavily on mental and physical health, emphasizing that self-care, emotional support, and cultivating a healthy environment are just as vital as physical training.

• Advocacy Street Talk Serving as a dynamic platform for social change, this session encouraged players and participants to "speak up, stand up, and be heard." Through team dialogue, Kayo Stars players shared their perspectives on pressing social issues, personal experiences, and the critical need to promote equality, respect, and mutual understanding in society.

• "RE UTLWENG, RE BONENG, RE TENG" Under this powerful theme—translated as a celebration of visibility, belonging, and unity—the session allowed the team to connect deeply, celebrate diversity, and strengthen their internal bonds. The focus remained firmly on embracing the core values of acceptance and respect for all.
