The City of Matlosana’s Klerksdorp Library has once again turned reading and learning into a lively celebration through its School Holiday Programme, which continues to engage children with interactive and educational activities during the October school break.

Held on Wednesday, 08 October 2025, the programme transformed the library into a hub of colour, laughter, and imagination, as children took part in a series of activities designed to promote creativity, literacy, and teamwork in a fun and inclusive environment.
A Day of Laughter, Stories, and Colour
The day’s activities included puppet shows, storytelling sessions, arts and crafts, and indigenous games, all aimed at inspiring a love for reading and learning through play.
Children enthusiastically participated in a creative craft project, assembling cheerful paper cloud decorations with colourful ribbons, an exercise that encouraged fine motor skills, coordination, and self-expression. Tables were filled with paper cutouts, glue, and bright strips of colour as children collaborated and helped one another complete their projects.
The puppet shows and storytelling sessions captured young imaginations, weaving together lessons about kindness, sharing, and cultural appreciation. Indigenous games rounded off the day, allowing children to move, laugh, and connect with one another beyond the classroom environment.
Encouraging Literacy and Community Involvement
The School Holiday Programme is one of several community-focused initiatives led by the City of Matlosana Library Services, designed to nurture reading habits from an early age while keeping learners meaningfully engaged during school breaks.
By blending educational themes with entertainment, the programme helps children build confidence, communication skills, and creativity, vital tools for both school and personal development. Library staff and volunteers guided the sessions, ensuring that every child felt included and supported throughout the activities.
Parents expressed appreciation for the programme, noting that it provides a safe and stimulating space where children can continue to learn even outside the school term.
Expanding to Local Libraries
The success of the Klerksdorp Library’s event sets the tone for the next round of activities. On Thursday, 09 October 2025, the School Holiday Programme will continue across several community libraries, including:
Tigane Library
Manzilpark Library
Khuma Library Services
Each branch will host a similar schedule of storytelling, craft-making, and traditional games, ensuring that children from all parts of the city can participate in this enriching experience.
The City of Matlosana has encouraged families to bring their children to join in, promising another day filled with learning, laughter, and creativity.

Wrap-Up
The Klerksdorp Library School Holiday Programme stands as a reminder of how community spaces can inspire growth, creativity, and connection. Through partnerships, dedicated facilitators, and joyful participation, the programme continues to build a love for reading and imagination among Matlosana’s youngest residents.
