Klerksdorp talent once again captured national attention when Tshepo Makabe, a proud learner from Mmokeng Secondary School, delivered a show-stopping performance at the National Conductors Solo Competition in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal.

🎤 A Voice from Jouberton
Hailing from Jouberton, Kanana, Tshepo represents both his school and his community with pride. Mmokeng Secondary is known for nurturing artistic expression, particularly in choir and vocal performance, and Tshepo is one of its brightest stars.
🌟 About the Competition
The National Conductors Solo Competition draws gifted singers from across South Africa. Each contestant showcases their solo vocal ability while also demonstrating conducting skills, a true test of artistry and leadership.
Tshepo competed in the Bass/Baritone category, performing Mozart’s demanding “La Vendetta.” His rich tone and confident stage presence impressed judges and audiences alike, earning him a 2nd place finish among 13 contestants.
🎵 Building a Musical Journey
This isn’t Tshepo’s first taste of success. He previously competed in the Tshwane Choral Music Association’s Soli Competition, advancing to later rounds, and remains an active member of COMFESA (the Choral Music Federation of South Africa), where he’s recognised as one of the North West’s promising voices.

Tshepo’s achievement is more than a personal victory, it’s a celebration of Klerksdorp’s growing choral community. Despite challenges such as limited resources, his journey proves what passion and perseverance can achieve.
