Kokosi Shutdown Planned Amid Water Crisis

A community meeting was held at Imfundo Secondary School on 18 September to discuss the ongoing water crisis in Merafong City. The gathering followed earlier protests in Khotsoville on 8 September and was convened by the steering committee to provide updates and guidance to stakeholders.

Shutdown Announcement
It was confirmed that a total shutdown of Kokosi location is scheduled for 23 September 2025. The demonstration will begin at 08:00 at the old taxi rank pay point near KG’s Carwash, with the route leading toward the N12 highway.
Community Preparations
Letters have been distributed to schools, businesses, and taxi associations informing them of the planned action.
During the shutdown:
Only health facilities will remain open.
Only Grade 12 learners will be permitted to attend school, in consideration of their preliminary examinations.

Committee Assurances
The steering committee emphasized that the community stands united in seeking solutions to the water crisis. They assured residents that efforts would be made to ensure jobs are secured and protected, while additional avenues would be pursued if employment is affected.
