The JB Marks Local Municipality has announced a significant, long-term temporary road closure in Potchefstroom to facilitate the next phase of the Promosa and Poortjie Dam Bulk Sewer Line Upgrade Project. Starting Monday, 23 February 2026, a portion of Daniel Street will be closed to allow contractors to trench and install a critical pipeline crossing. This project is part of a broader municipal strategy to strengthen and modernize the bulk sewer infrastructure serving the region.

Closure Details and Affected Areas
The construction activity will specifically impact the intersections of Daniel Street and Blommetjie Street, as well as Daniel Street and Sooliman Street. While the work is essential for service delivery, the municipality has noted that every effort will be made to minimize disruptions to the community.
The following areas are expected to experience the most significant impact:
Promosa
Mohadin
Ikageng Extension 7
Project Timeline and Daily Schedule
The road closure is scheduled to remain in place until Wednesday, 13 May 2026. To balance construction needs with public access, the municipality has implemented a specific daily schedule:
Weekday Closures: The road will be closed daily from 06:00 to 18:00 while construction is active.
Nightly Access: Daniel Street will reopen each evening from 18:00 to 06:00 the following morning.
Weekend Access: The road will remain fully open to the public over weekends.
Traffic Diversions and Monitoring
Motorists and residents are advised to plan their commutes in advance and utilize the designated alternative routes. Traffic will be diverted via Sooliman Street and Chief Albert Luthuli Drive.
Key traffic management measures include:
Signage: Clear and appropriate signage will be installed to guide both motorists and pedestrians along the deviation routes.
Redirection: Vehicles approaching the closure on Daniel Street will be redirected onto Sooliman Street, while Chief Albert Luthuli Drive should be used for entering or exiting the township.
Monitoring: While Traffic Officers will not be permanently stationed at the site, they will maintain a visible presence and conduct regular monitoring to assist with congestion.

The JB Marks Local Municipality emphasizes that this temporary inconvenience is necessary to ensure the safe and efficient completion of vital sanitation infrastructure. Residents are encouraged to remain patient as these upgrades are completed to provide more resilient services to the community.
